My little guy is congested and has a small cough. I was giving him pedicare infant drops and they seemed to have helped him a little. I called the Dr. office to get an appointment ... they can not see him till monday. they said to stop giving him the drops. He is 3 months old and the drops to me seemed to have helped. Would you keep giving them or would you stop since the Dr. said so?

Did they say why? Call them back and ask. Just say, they seem to help him a bit, and he's just so miserable, do I really need to stop them, what harm will they do him? It doesn't have a cough suppressant, does it? I know that cough suppressants can be bad because the mucus just stays trapped in there and builds up.

You could try some saline drops (little nose etc) for his nose if he is stuffy. Hope he feels better soon. :goodvibes

If the doctor's office said to stop, then I would stop.

It's been said that most cold medicines don't work for adults..so I would imagine they don't really work for infants either.

He may be very uncomfortable but almost all babies go thru this at one time or another & it just has to run its course.

The first doctor I had for my kids seemed to think that cold medicine did not work for infants but it did seem to help my kids be a little more comfortable so I kept giving it to them. It may not have cured their cold but anything that made them more comfortable and was not going to harm them was a-ok with me. Our second doctor (who we see now) does not have a problem with it. She is a woman and I am partly convinced that is why. I think she understands how desperate we Moms can feel when our babies feel bad.

One think that we make sure to do when they have a cold is to set up a humidifier in their rooms (I sometime even put in that Vicks vaporizer stuff) and slightly elevate their cribs. This seems to help them breathe better.

It may be that your dr. thinks too much of a good thing is bad, especially being that your baby is only 3 months old. Our pediatrician doesn't like any of his patients to use Orajel because it is bad to use regularly.

Yes, certainly call them back and inquire why and to see what you can give to your baby. Hope your little guy feels better.

I also think the humidifier and elevating the crib helps a lot. GL! :wizard:
