I killed the Magic for my son ....

aww the tears would have killed me too... my DS 7 i found out this year still believes in Santa. He told me he wanted an ipad for chistmas and i said hun and ipad is a very expensive gift... he looked at me with bewilderment and said why does Santa care about how much it cost if the elves are just going to make it? He said he had been a very good boy and still plans to add it to his list.....

I hope you find a way to make it better but in the end all kids have to find out somehow and some way.

I do not know if you can fix it now but your story reminded me of my youngest son the first time we went to Chucky Cheese he was like 4 and he was scared to death of Chucky Cheese and we had to tell him how it was just a person in a costume like at Halloween. It is a sad moment when they no longer believe.

this is funny because i was at chucky cheese when i found out that all these characters were just people in costumes! i was like 5 yrs old, and i remember looking at the mouse (that's chucky right?) and i could tell it was a costume, i could see a gap between the head piece and the suit...
i was like "oh........" and i remember feeling weird when chucky would try to like be all friendly with me and stuff. i wasn't having it after i found out it was just some guy haha. &i kept it to myself too, i didnt even tell my parents or anyone. so they thought i still believed for quite a while after that incident.
luckily i got over it before our next disneyland trip :rotfl:
and i guess it didn't affect me too much because one of my favorite parts of going to DL is still meeting all the characters!

Glad I could bring an old memory to you, my DS just totally freaked out and started crying saying "Big Ears, Big Ears" it is funny now but wasn't then. We never did get to WDW until he was 9 and by then he was fine with the charactors.

Meant to respond to this thread sooner, but it got moved and I forgot about it!

Glad to hear my suggestion might be useful (or at least, was well received, lol). It's the only way I could quickly think of handling it. I had my own children in mind while masterminding that plan, lol. Sadly, I had to tell my kids YEARS ago that the characters are just people in costumes, because otherwise they were scared to death of them. :scared1:

The same isn't true of Santa, etc., because I've never had my kids get up close to these characters at the mall (they don't want to get close, so we just admire them from afar, lol). As a result, my two youngest still believe.

I remember telling my oldest son about Santa, though. He was 11! We had been homeschooling since he was 8, so he'd never heard the "news" about Santa at school. In the beginning of 6th Grade, he wanted to go back to public school. I was SO torn, because I didn't want him to accidentally say something about Santa, and get completely ridiculed and laughed at from fellow students his age, but I didn't want to ruin the fun for him, either. In the end, I felt I had to tell him the truth. His eyes glistened with tears for about a minute, but he sucked it up, lol.

And then, after one day, he remembered why he hated public school so much to begin with, and went back to homeschooling. I ruined his Santa fun for nothing! Then again, if I had let him believe it much longer, he'd probably be writing a book about me now (and not a flattering one, either!)...HAHAHA! :rotfl:

I used to be a Disney cast member. In our day, we were told Mickey and other characters do not speak because they are saving their voices for their next stage show or movie.

Oh, and the reason there's a cable above Sleeping Beauty castle is so Tinker Bell/Dumbo/Zero don't get lost in the dark. They follow the cable when they fly so they know where to go.

Remember to keep the magic in your hearts!

Michael

What Mickey Isn't real?!? na jk haha

ummm... from a teenagers point of view... stick to face characters :)

but do not tell him that the real mickey needs a rest... that will back up the fact that their actors.

just gonna say this, what me and my mom talk about all the time.

we wonder do the mickey actors go to micke mouse college and practice his signature. one kid has probably gotten his autograph every trip then he realized " hey, these signatures aren't the same."

idk it makes me smile every now and then

I wouldnt say they go to college but I read a book once that talked about how they have to go to weeks of acting classes to make sure they have the correct manerisms for the character and can sign "the signature" with the glove on. I once compared my sisters autograph book when she was little (shes now 13) to mine from when I was little (23) and the signatures are all pretty much the same.

To the ortginal Poster: I wouldnt say you ruined the magic maybe just upset him. My baby sister has obviously known for a while now but at 13 she still gets excited to seem them last year that she went it was on a school trip and I got a text from her about how peter pan excited she was to see snow white by the wishing well and when she got home she told me all about how she saw handy manny and took a picture just for me. And she would never pass up the oppurtinuty for a picture with Cinderella, even if sorcereor mickey is right there and her loveing older sister would rather pose with him >,< lol she even still whispers "Im a big Fan" in Cinderellas ear. I dont think the magic is so much about knowing or not knowing. Its about the experience and forgetting whats real and what isnt while your in the parks. :wizard:

My Dd loved playing at Chucky Cheese but HATED that rat!! The Costume was so gross!! she even hated the stage show! She liked the Pizza and tokens and games and tickets!! But she wanted nothing to do with that rat.

I was shock that she loved the Disney Charater But I guess after watching the Disney Movies a million times each there wasn't anything they could do that she didn't already know about. Well and I am a big big believer in everything Disney!!
