I Just Wanted To Be Athletic - And Now, I Am! (comments welcome)

Hmmm. You are right, Stacie. I don't know how I got a week ahead. Very mysterious. I did do back to back 5's as well - or at least I think I did. I think my brain has been impacted by this iron thing as well.

Why did you change your weekly walk/runs? I have to admit, I have been kind of casual about the times on those. I'm not as much a fan of the running for minutes outside. On the TM, it works fine, of course, but out in the world, it makes it harder to plan a course.

The whole weekend is a problem this time, unfortunately. I think what I am going to do is miss the first run of the week and instead do some cross training today - aerobics tape probably, since I ran the LR yesterday, I don't want to do more of the same today. Then I'll do the rest of the week on Wednesday and Friday. But should I do another 6 or just plow ahead to the 7? I can't believe I messed that up. :sad2:

So today I am thinking about the things I have to stop because they are the very things that got me into this heavy place. In no particular order:

1. Cereal as a snack food.
2. Ice cream as a snack food.
3. Seconds at meals
4. Eating the kids' leftovers
5. Chocolate Chips and M&M's as a snack food.
6. Eating things just because they are there and they taste good.
7. Eating past my comfort level.
8. Putting too much cheese on things. :smickey:
9. Sugary dessert on a daily (sometimes every meal!) basis.

So are there any I've missed???? There must be at least one.

I think we were seprated at birth!! You mean cereal is not supposed to be a snack food :scared1: oops!! I could eat cereal for every meal (and have!:rolleyes1 )

I also have seconds at meals, finish Faith's food, eat chocolate chips, eat becasue it tastes good, eat until I am so full I could burst, I love cheese and cannot imagine life without dessert!! Yup we are long lost sisters!!:flower3:

I love having someone who knows what I am talking about and how it feels!! Thank you!!:worship: Can't wait to read more!!

I changed my weekly times because I had them set up for a 4/1 or 3/2 walk/ run interval. Now I'm mainly just walking them all so decided to just go by time as it is scheduled in MfM book. I like the time better during the week because it seems less daunting. I think you have to do whatever works for you. You know how your time/mileage breaks down so if you like going by mileage better, do that. My weekly one end up being around 3 miles or just a bit over as I'm around a 15 min pace. So I end up w/ two 3 milers mid week and then my LWR on the weekend.

They do say if you miss a run to not try to make it up so I think you will be good w/ skipping today and doing W/F.

I think you should do whatever you feel like this Friday. If it's a struggle, stick w/ 6. If you feel good, go on w/ the 7. If you do end up w/ 7, then you can do back to back 7s before the pull back week of 4.

IMO anyway...

Hope all goes well!
Stacie

But should I do another 6 or just plow ahead to the 7? I can't believe I messed that up. :sad2:

From my marathon training in 2006, I would have to suggest stick with the 6. You really didn't mess up, you just went a little longer one day. At least you know you can do the 6!!

Congrats on the great improvement!! You are doing so awesome!!

Later!!

Amy

Wow - all kinds of action over here this morning! I  it!

Amy, I'm glad you liked my list - it sounds like it resonated strongly with you, too. Yeah, Cereal isn't really supposed to be snack food, I'm pretty sure. I have no control with it. I always KNOW when I'm doing those things that they are the things that make me gain, but for some reason, it's really hard to STOP doing them. I do think it helps to write them down. And counting points for EVERYTHING helps me to think twice and stop before I start, also. Though it's a hassle, I'm worth it. :)

Stacie, that makes sense. I'm looking at the MFM Run Half-Marathon training plan now and it looks like I'm ahead of the curve on that one. I was supposed to be doing 30 minutes up to week 5, anyhow. I'll reexamine my weekly runs as well with all of that in mind, though obviously, I can't undo anything I've already done over and above.

I do think I'm going to go ahead and do another 6 this week - I will have to think of something different for the 7, anyhow. I just love my 6 loop so much. Even in the windy bluster yesterday, I was happy to be doing that extra bit that makes the 5 mile loop into a 6 mile loop. It's nice and FLAT. The rest of the course is either up hill or downhill. I think maybe I need to plan some other routes in flatter areas. Though hill running is probably good for me. I sometimes wonder if it's good to be running hills in every workout. Especially when the half is so much flatter.

Well, Amy and Corinna...count me in as a long lost sister. I have to say I do all of the things on that list as well. Especially the cheese :rolleyes1 .

Corinna - you are such an inspiration. I know I say it often...but even when i was running...you were a rock and so great at pushing yourself - and that always inspired me to get out there!

Aww, Kim. I'm just trying to keep myself afloat over here. I'm glad it's helped you from time to time as well. And don't forget - I could not have done any of it without encouragement and support either. Couldn't have done it without my C25K buddies, Kim. I really could not.

As for the Danger! list - I look at it now and I think a so many of those things come under the heading of "bored/comforting/mindless munching." It's a habit I break for a while and then seem to revert to when I lose my focus. Right now, I've gotten most of the "munchables" out of the house, which helps a lot. The kids wonder where the ice cream is, but we have an ice cream machine and I can make them some when they really want it. It does not seem to be AS addictive, even when made with 1/2 and 1/2. I swear, I could eat that slow-churned stuff from Edy's all day.

Something else that makes a difference: I don't care what Bob and Jillian say about sugar-free gum. When I chew sugar-free gum, all I want to do is munch the whole rest of the day. Regular gum does not seem to have the same effect.

I did Sweatin to the Oldies 3 with Richard Simmons today as my non-run. Take me back to the 80's man! Actually, it's 80's people, 60's music? Very weird, actually. It is not as tough a workout as running, but I have to really think about it, so I don't get to think about whatever I want to. I really love that about running. On the other hand, it is good to mix it up and I did feel like I was using muscles a little that normally get neglected in the running. I earned a whopping 3 activity points. :thumbsup2

All right. I have a hard time keeping track for Team Ohana of those miles and minutes if I don't write them down somewhere. Especially when I XT and it is not in the Garmin. Or I start the garmin 3/4 mile into the run. So here comes the log for this week. Just thrown in here. Fascinating reading, of course.

Oct 26 6.6miles, 1:35:18
Oct 27 Aerobics - 53 minutes

To be continued......

All right! Yesterday marked two weeks of food journaling on WW. 2 weeks of renewed commitment. I have to say, even after just 2 weeks, I am noticing a difference.

I am not bulging out of my clothes so much.

I have a lessened compulsion to eat like a crazy person.

Perhaps my extra chin is not quite so prominent. :upsidedow

And I have gone down a size....not in pants or dresses of course. Why is it that the BRA size is always the first thing to go down? :sad2:

So on to the next two weeks. I believe I am on track for my 10 lb loss by Thanksgiving. I just really don't want to be busting out of my shorts. And it would be nice if I could wear the clothes I bought for Europe again, come December. THAT would be REALLY nice. :) So, onward and downward!

Thanks for stopping by my journal and the encouragement.
I remember my mom doing those videos when I was little. I thought they were hilarious back then.
Congrats on the weight loss, or just the better fitting in your clothes. That's always better than a number I think. Keep up the good work!

Oh, yes. Those videos are definitely hilarious. Very ridiculous dance moves. I used those tapes a lot before my wedding, though, so I know them. I'm a bit of a slow kinesthetic learner, so it makes sense to go with something I know, but I still feel fairly embarrassed, even alone in my basement. Thanks for stopping by here!

Kim, I am hopping over to your journal, nice to meet you sister :cutie:

:woohoo: This is such a big one!! YEAH!!!

I can't wait for this day myself!!

I am also looking forward to this as I have some pretty bras that are too small (and I have a little to spare here  )

Good Job!! You are so inspirational!! I am so glad there is someone with the same goals I have (well except for the running, I will stick to walking). Keep it up girlie!! You are doing awesome!!

Amy

Well, Amy, I look forward to the day when, once again, that double chin is completely retracted. I'm not there yet, by any means.

Oh, I wish I had some pretty bras! Mine are very functional and truthfully need replacing very soon. :sad2: Maybe I'll buy a pretty one soon, though. You're lucky you have some waiting for you. :)

Walking, running, swimming, biking, hiking! whatever works to get us where we're going, I say. Though obviously I have developed a bit of a "thing" about running. You wouldn't think it to look at me, either!

Funny thing today. I was off at this training session for the Great Books program for most of the day, and as I'm walking into the building, I actually thought "Oh man, I should have put on a belt!" That was a great yet slightly concerning feeling. Fortunately, I managed to keep my pants pulled up the whole day.

So my plan to run 3 or so got majorly derailed this morning. We were running past the house where Skippy's friend-dog lives and is on an invisible fence. I was trying to get Skippy to run past and stop on the way back (possibly not the wisest plan in the first place, but I didn't want to get stuck "playing" after only .3 miles. So then I realized that Boyd was following us.
Hmm. Not good. So I think I slowed down and was going to lead him back to his yard, BUT things must have gotten rowdy or something cause I ended up either tripped or bumped or pushed - I just don't know - and ended up falling down, knee, torso, face. I'm mostly OK, thank goodness. I have a slightly sore knee, feel kind of "off" in general, and have a good sized bump/bruise as well as some road rash on my cheek up near my eye. Also, my very nice sunglasses have a broken lens. It could have been worse. Teeth. Wrist. Etc. It did bring my trianing run to a screeching halt, though. The neighbor brought me a chair and some ice and I recovered a bit before walking on home. I'm going to see the chiropractor this afternoon. Wish I were out there finishing up my 40 minutes, though.

I am SO sorry!! I was cracking up at this description!!:rotfl2:

I do hope you are OK and that there is nothing long term like a sprain that may throw you off your training. Keep us posted!!

:flower3: Get Better Soon Flowers :flower3:

Right, Amy - laugh at the clumsy woman. My neighbor did not laugh, though, when she came to pull me out of the STREET! :lmao: Seriously, I'm OK. I was really lucky and did not sprain anything. My knee is a little bruised as well, so that may also cut into my training a little, but I think it's going to be better tomorrow, even. I took some advil, so my face doesn't even hurt. :rotfl:

Actually, this is pretty much what it must have looked like: :worship:

Thanks for the flowers!

How do you spell "Sidelined?" In this case it is C-o-n-c-u-s-s-i-o-n. I went in to the ER yesterday because I've been having some concentration and confusion issues that have continued past my initial fall on Wednesday - did I write about that here or was that on the Ohana thread? I am not really myself right now. Anyhow, the CT scan showed no bleeding or swelling, so I just have to go on recovering, but it has meant a halt to running, at least for a few more days. I still managed to lose .6 lbs this week, which puts my loss over 5 now. Depending on what I count as my "starting weight" - I was bad about doing that starting weight this time. But still. Woo hoo.

OK - it was the Ohana thread. I'll repost here as well:

I am so glad you got it checked out!! Take care of yourself for the next few days and take it easy. I remember I had a week off of my training fo ran injury and I did not fall that far behind.

Congrats on the weight loss!!:yay: You are doing awesome.

Have a good weekend, and take care.

Hey! How are you??? WOW about the fall and your Sideline issue!!! I was going to check to see if you got in your 6 miler, but I'm guessing probably not.

Maybe it's good thing you got your 6 miler in last week huh?

Hope you are feeling better. Check in when you get a chance.

No six miler this week. I missed all of my runs. I did a tape on Monday instead and the Wednesday, the accident was .3 miles into the run. Then Friday, I was getting a CT scan instead of running. :( You're right, though, it's good I got my 6 in when I did!

I am not sure when I should start back training, though. I am thinking of doing a little treadmill later today (when I'll have supervision  ) and see how it goes. I don't feel like my coordination is impaired at all. I am feeling LOTS better than on Friday or even yesterday. It seems like each day is an improvement on the last.

The weekend was a little food-crazy, BUT I figure maybe I blew through most of those Flex points, but I can be within the daily allowance the rest of the week and it might even be good. With 6 hours in the car on Saturday and again on Sunday to get to and from my grandmother's birthday party (she turned 90!!) I didn't get enough water, either. These things happen though. For a couple of days there, concussion and all, I did not even want to think about numbers and food and whatnot. The cloud seems to have lifted, though, and I'm logging points for the day again!
