I just saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Movie or TV show? We saw the movie on our cruise, I loved it and thought it was terrific!! Was looking forward to the TV show, but only watched two episodes and didn't care for it at all. :(

My grandmother said: "you just GOTTA see My Big Fat Greek Wedding!"

My boss said: "Have you seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding yet?"

My neighbor said: "What an awesome movie! Ya gotta rent it!"

So hubby and I watched it, expecting it to be this incredibly wonderful movie. We were very disappointed.

It was kinda cute, but we hated the ending, and it moved pretty slow. I guess maybe we would have liked it had people not built it up to be some really terriffic movie.

I had a flashback of "Accidental Tourist" from many years ago. It came highly recommended, too - and I actually walked out of the theater during THAT movie.

Two good movies I've rented lately are:

Swept from the sea (love story)
Shallow Hal (I give it FIVE STARS!)

Also rented - but regretted:

Moulin Rouge
Goldmember

LOL, it was a little slow, but perfect for a slow morning. It had some similarities to my family. lol We aren't greek, but we could give them a run for their money. I have 52 first cousins. lol

I had heard lots of raves about it too & then I rented it & I thought it was hilarious but only because I could relate to it. I'm Italian & being from a big Italian family, we have had similar things happen, etc...so for that reason, I found it to be a story of my life (or any one of my cousin's lives!!) :teeth:

I recently rented it and thought it was cute. I was also influenced by all the hype and thought the movie was going to be more than the old "his family is different than her family" theme. I kept waiting for the twist that would make it different, but it never came. I still enjoyed it; I just thought it was going to be something more than it was. The best movie of that kind I have ever seen is "Best Friends" with Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds.

When she was walking down the isle and they were all spitting on her train, I was absolutely ROARING!!!

I haven't seen this yet and I'm hoping I enjoy it as much as everyone else has! I've heard nothing but great reviews for this movie.

DH & I just rented it this weekend......also have heard nothing but hype about it.
We both enjoyed it and there were moments that we were cracking up, but I really expected more, given the hype.

Still, we really liked it and both agree we'll never again be able to look at a bottle of Windex without laughing!!

CRB...we were also roaring at the wedding scene!!

Im with you. We were very disappointed in it also. It did have a few funny parts but all in all not that great. We also rented Seving Sarah at he same time and I thought it was much cuter.
I also loved Shallow Hal.....I crack up everytime I see it. I didnt like Moulin Rouge either. Goldmember is not my fav but a fav of my 12 yr old.

Best Friends with Goldie Hawn and Burt Reynolds is hysterical! I watch it every time I catch on. When he is freezing in Buffalo at her parents house and then she is sweating in his mom's house in I think Florida, I'm just dying. It reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when Elaine goes to visit Jerry's parents in Florida and she keeps begging them to put on the AC and they keep saying, "Why? Are you hot?". I have been to too many family visits to Florida where I am sweating to death in their homes and they are seemingly oblivious.

BTW, I really liked Greek Wedding. I loved the ending and I liked that he remembered her from the first time he saw her at the coffee shop when she had her glasses on and no make up.

Deena....that's so funny! DH and I rented Serving Sarah and My Big Fat Greek Wedding at the same time too....only we really liked MBFGW and really didn't like Serving Sarah at all.:teeth:

We enjoyed MBFGW because DH is from a huge traditional Italian family and we could relate to so many "family" things (like Mishetta mentioned)....we laughed so loudly our DS whose room is right below ours had to come up and tell us to be quiet so he could get some sleep.

Oh...I also really liked Best Friends. I've forgotten about that movie since it's been years since I saw it. But still, I really enjoyed MBFGWedding the best, because of it reminding me of our family.

My next fave movie (oldie though) would have to be "When Harry met Sally."

the wedding scene was a hoot(especially the family spitting on the train)

I love Moulin Rouge(no suprise right:) )

next up: either Bulletproof Monk(with BF) or The Hunted

I didn't think it was nearly as funny as all the hype let on though. However, I do love the TV show.

And as for Moulin Rouge....UGH. There was WAY too much hype about this one. I know people that saw it 0498590485034850928230 times and loved it. I saw it once and that was plenty. It was ok that one time but I definately would not sit through it again.

I worked in a Greek diner for 10 years all through school, for the same family. The movie is very accurate! And we went to theor daughters weddings-also very accurate. Looking back those were some fun times.
