I had to do the Heimlich maneuver on my husband tonight. He was eating left over pork shoulder and he choked on a piece. It was so scary for all of us - my poor girls were hysterical. I am still shaking. I hope that I never have to do something like that again. At least I can be confident that I know how to do it properly. That piece of pork went flying across my kitchen like a bullet!

I had to do it on my dd twice FOR CHICKEN!!! I tell her never to eat chicken ALONE!

Glad things turned out alright!!!!!

Glad that you were able to handle that situation. I don't know I could be calm enough to do it. :grouphug: to you and your family.

 Thank the Lord he is o.k. and you knew what to do :thumbsup2 :grouphug:

That's so frightening. I'm glad you were with him and knew what to do ::yes::.

I am glad everything turned out ok.

It is a good reminder to everyone to be sure someone in your house knows how to do it!

I had to use the child thrusts on my 18mth old 2 weeks ago. He choked on a potato chip of all things! I was amazed how quickly it came back to me. My daughter who just got trained this summer saw the whole thing so now she knows it really works!

YAY! :thumbsup2 Kudos to you!

Just a quick aside...I am Red Cross Certified in CPR and First Aid and have also taken "When Help Is Delayed" (which makes me a Level 2 First Aider for Girl Scouts...long story).
Anyway, IF you are ever alone and you start to choke, you are not helpless. Lean hard against a counter(like in your kitchen), almost bumping yourself in the diaphragm area. You can also lean hard into a chair, and pull it hard against your diaphragm.
I have never had to do this variation of the Heimlich on myself, but I have been told that it is supposed to work.
I did have to do a mild Heimlich on my DD when she was younger, she had had a cold and some phlegm got stuck across her windpipe. I was walking behind her in the bathroom and saw her face in the mirror...it absolutely started to turn blue.

agnes!
PS - Tell you DH to take smaller bites... ;)

Good thing you knew how to do the heimlich!! I would say a round of ice cream for everyone!!

See I would have asked the DIS how to do it.

Great save there :thumbsup2

Wow! Great job!! I had to do that once on my younger DD. She was about six and it was a piece of candy. Scared the mess out of me.

Thank goodness your DH is okay! He is very lucky that you knew what you were doing.

I had to do the Heimlich manuever on my mom once, many years ago, when I was a teenager. She was choking on a cheese quesadilla. It's so scary, isn't it? Just the memory of it is bringing tears to my eyes right now.

I'm so glad you knew what to do and were able to help your hubby. :grouphug:

:thumbsup2 Good job..

A few months ago I was eating steak and had to do it to myself..My parents and brother were in to much shock..Thank god for Jr.Lifeguards

Glad it everything turned out okay. I imagine everyone is appreciating each other more at your house tonight.

Thank god you knew how to do the Heimlich! I'm glad your DH is ok.
