I purchased these before really doing any research on here (I won't make that mistake again) How do I know if they are real? I looked on pin pics - they look ok I guess. The backs have some scratches on them? Is this normal? I got a 2007 Mickey in front of the castle - he does not have black in his eyes. 2008 Halloween 3-d Chip and Dale and 2008 Hallowenn 3-d Mickey and Minnie. Do you know if these could be fakes? Any info would be greatly appreciated

The best thing to do is not buy on ebay. It is full of fakes and theives.

I have at least two friends that sell stuff on ebay and they are neither of those things. They don't sell pins. Perhaps you have had a bad experience.

OP it's very hard to say without seeing them in person. What did pinpics say about them?

I bought a set of the lollipop pins on ebay and every one of them was fake according to what the other traders told me on pinpics and at the trading nights I have been to at Disney World. And if they arent stealing the pins how in the world can someone sell a $23 set of pins for $12 on ebay... are they seriously selling brand new pins and sets of pins at a $11 loss? Not to mention they have to pay the sales tax on top of it.

Most pin sellers you see selling on Ebay for what seems like a loss are more than likly buying them at a cast discount and make up some of the loss on shipping. Now that does not mean all of them are on the up and up. Check out your pin sellers feedback and look at pin pics for some info.

But I find it hard to belive that there are so many scrappers out there. I think it is a little far fetched to belive that ever seller is selling stolen pins...

I'm sorry you had a poor time on eBay, but I have only had great experiences. But then, I worked at Disney at a pin trading booth during my college program, and can fairly easily spot a fake. Not all people on eBay are out to get you. Just do your research on what real pins look like and you should be fine. I have gotten some fantastic pins from eBay during the few years I was not able to go on a trip to Disney and buy from the rack. Just be careful and use your best judgement.

It looks as if the Lollipop Pins are Disney Tin Pin series. What happens with these is that you buy about 5 of them in one tin, for about $23. So a lot of folks on eBay will divide the Tin Pins up, and sell them one by one or a lot. Disney makes money off of these because everyone will try and buy the full set of tin pins, as you don't get a full set in one tin. Disney has tons of these pins each year. So that's probably how they are able to sell quite a few of them for a low cost; they are all bought at once for a price. For example, one tin has about 5 pins, so one tin might sell for $23. Hope that makes sense and helps. They look real to me, but I haven't seen them in person. Edit: They are from a Mystery Tin Pin collection, which was released on March 10, 2008 at Walt Disney World. I'd hang on to them. Mystery Tin Pins look a little different from all the others. I have tons of these at home, all bought from Disney World.

None of us are saying that every seller has scrappers. A lot of sellers that have large numbers of pins are selling scrappers. A lot of sellers buy pins from estate sells, from liquidations, from private collections, heck I've seen pins at garage sales. Scrappers are a very real and invasive part of pin trading, it's good to be educated and that's what these threads are for, to help educate traders so we can hopefully put the scrap sellers out of business. :)

Checking a sellers feedback doesn't necessarily mean anything. Before I knew what I was doing I was buying those large lots and giving great feedback, now I know better and wish I could change that but I can't so I post here instead. :)

I have 6 of the lollipops, 2 Mickey's and they are both different in coloration. Not by much tho so it may just be dye lot differences, it's hard to tell. But, I personally like them and I want them so I'm buying them and trading for them when I can. But yes, when you are trying to complete your collection you will have extras so many people use them as traders or they sell them on eBay to make some of their $$ back.
