Might I suggest swinging over to the journal thread and starting a journal. I know it really helped me and kept me motivated! I like being able to look back at where I started and seeing where I am today. Congrats on your first 5k!!
There is a lot that you can learn in the running journal thread. And many inspiring runners pursuing their own running goals and dreams.
oooh, interesting, haven't heard of that thread. thank you!
Just be mindful of one thing. Reading other running journals can cause you to reconsider many running ideas that you never once believed would apply to you.
Me in 2011: I only have to finish this one half marathon, earn my
Disneyland Castle medal and never again.
Me in 2012: I only to have the half marathon in Disneyland and a half marathon in Disney World to earn my Coast to Coast medal and never again.
Me in 2014: You mean I can run a 10K and Half marathon on back to back days and earn a 3rd Star Wars medal?!?! Sign me up, I can do this. Just takes training
Me in 2015: You mean I can run the Star Wars Half at Disneyland and the Star Wars Half at Disney World and earn a Millennium Falcon medal in 2 years?!?! And all I have to do is train during a time of year when I'm working 10-13 hour days 6 days a week? I want this enough that I will give it my best effort. (Turns out that I did indeed do it. Twice.)
Me in 2016: These races are fun, but boy do I really start to hate running around mile 10. There is no way I will ever run a marathon. Period. End of discussion. Not even at Disney World.
Me in 2017: I haven't trained in 6 weeks, but the last Disneyland race for what may be a very long time is happening in 3 weeks. I'm untrained, but I can do this. Just go slow.
Me in 2018: I don't hate running as much as I used to around mile 10. Is is possible that I could actually attempt the marathon? Sure why not? But let's throw Dopey in there too.
Me in 2019: Dopey and the marathon were so much fun that I want to do it again next year.
Me in 2020: Dopey was again so much fun even in worse heat than last year. I cannot wait for Star Wars Rival Run 2020. They had to cancel it? I truly hope I'll be able to run it in 2021. And even if I cannot, I hope it does return.
Back in 2011 I had a lot of notions about what I really wanted to do as a runner. And none of them involved the marathon. Even in late 2017, I would laugh out loud when friends that asked me if I was going to run a marathon. And in many respects, I owe the very idea that I could run a marathon to the many runners who described that experience and what it felt like them for them.
