out our vacation we are taking this year to see how much it would cost if we were to book thru WDW and not use our points and I was floored. We are staying at BLT 10/20-23 in a Lake View room which is 45 pts and would cost us $1,536 if we were to book it thur WDW and then we are moving to OKW HH Studio from 10/23-29 which will take 74 pts but to book thru WDW would cost $2,194 for a grand total of $3,730 :scared1:. We could never afford to spend this much money on accomodations for one vacation.

Here's the part that's making me do my happy dance :banana:.
Last year we purchase 50pts at OKW resale for $3600 plus 1/2 the closing costs (seller paid the other 1/2). With banking our pts for the 08 UY and borrowing 19 pts from our 11 UY we are able to have this amazing vacation we could otherwise not have. We already know that we can't go on vacation during 2010 so I'm not worried about not having points for that year which is why we are taking such a big vacation this year. I can't wait to telll DH how much this would have cost us and that this one vacation pays for our DVC already! Now I do plan on adding on because eventally when the kids get older we will need a 1bd but for now a studio will work fine.

So for those of you who want to get in but are afraid of or can't afford that initial big cost don't be afraid to check out a smaller contracts resale. You can get alot from a few points and you can always add on!

Congrats - that sounds amazing ! Having your first trip basically pay off you're points is awesome.

I'm still waiting on the ROFR gods :scared1:, but if it goes thru our plan is to take my parents with us on our trip next year and spend a week in a 2BR somewhere at WDW. Paying cash thru CRO we would/could never do this, even if they still have something similar to the 4/3 deal going on. The thought of paying a couple thousand dollars for a week and getting nothing for it (other than a great room obviously) vs knowing that this recoups some of our initial investment tells me that we've made the right decision to make the plunge into DVC.

Enjoy the trip,

Chris

That is wonderful!

We had a 2 bedroom boardwalk view on our 1st trip that priced out at $4500.00. That wasn't bad considering that we only paid $8400 for our 100 points. (That was before the economy went bonkers.)

We've definitely made out since purchasing in 2006.

I'm considering buying a smaller points DVC resale (let's say 75 points) since I can't afford right now to buy 160 points. It sounds like it would be the smart thing to do to get started - my question is: on the DVC resale listings, they mention certain # of points coming in on 12/1/09 and 75 points coming in on 12/1/10. Do you know if that means you can't use the points coming in until that time (like 12/1/10)?

I don't know who to ask this question without getting involved with a sales agent bugging me about buying the contract so hope you or someone can answer my question.

I agree with you (on a side note here) that it was a great idea to buy DVC resale with the money you are saving over going thru Disney website. Great thinking!!

heaven2dc, it means they have a December contract with 0 current points, some coming this december, and all for the following december. You can use the points before 12/09 by borrowing them back into the 2008 use year (called that since the points would have become available 12/08). You can borrow points back one use year or bank them forward one use year. I hope this makes sense.

Since you technically wouldn't get your full 75 points until your 10UY (Dec 20010), I'd make sure the seller has paid the 09 MF's and that the price is lowered to accomodate for a 11mo of MF's without points (you will have to pay the 2010 MF's).

Thank you both! This gets so confusing at times :rotfl: I am going to contact The Timeshare Store and see what they have to offer (I've cruised the resale listings and found that one for 75 points but want to talk to a "live" person - as opposed to a "dead" computer :lmao: j/k!!)

Thanks for the tip, kerickson - but what is MF's? (I'm so totally stupid with all this lingo!)

just for fun i priced our xmas /new year trip cost £7300, more than happy with DVC:thumbsup2

The main reason I bought DVC was to stay 5 or 6 nights twice a year in a 1 bedroom. The regular price through CRO would be over $400 a night! No way! My dues on 250 points are around $1300 annual.

We've purchased through The Timeshare Store (Jason) and they are excellent and knowledgeable, patiently answered all our questions and we did not find them to be pushy at all. Be clear on what size contract and which resort you'd most like and get on their email alert list so you can find out the latest contracts that have become available before they publish them on their site. Also, the first stickie at the top of this board in first post it tells you how to request their info brochure with lots of info on purchasing via resale.

Best wishes :goodvibes

Congratulations!

That's the way to work the point process! :thumbsup2
