I just had an unpleasant experience...

WIthout any hard data to back me up, I still believe that those who would put a "God Bless America" sticker on their car would be more likely to be a Republican.

I do want to add, and I should have added earlier, that MANY of the cars that had Bush stickers on them (on my trip to Cleveland) ALSO had "God Bless America" or "I support the Troops" stickers, while NONE of the cars that had Kerry stickers on them had these types of stickers on them.

And, even here, when I see Bush stickers, I might ALSO see "God Bless America" stickers, or yellow or red white and blue ribbon stickers, but when I have seen Kerry stickers on cars I have never seen any of "God Bless America" or "I support the troops" stickers accompanying them.

So, although it's not hard data, it is based on my experience. However, I didn't want to assume those folks were Bush supporters, so I didn't count them while tallying.

Really, c'mon. . .the Republicans are much more likely to evoke God in politics and affairs of the State. . .you would disagree?

The guy's a jerk! Just try to shrug it off. I've seen lots of bumper stickers from both candidates, but none of the road rage. What's next, people ripping campaign signs out of people's yards?

actually it was just on the news the other night, that in one area in Pennsylvania over 500 Bush Cheney yard signs have been stolen from people's yards..

I'm sorry that happened. A friend of mine came out to the mall parking lot about a month ago to find her car stuck with five Bush/Cheney stickers. They had removed her Kerry/Edwards (which she attached with magnetic tape, so as to not leave marks), and put Bush stickers all over actually stuck on. She had alot of paint damage to her car from trying to remove them. :( I do not blame Republicans for that because I know 99% of them would never do that. Just like most democrats wouldn't squirt urine on RNC delegates. But its experiences like that (I knew someone who had something similiar happen due to their Gore sticker in '00) that prevent me from proudly displaying my Kerry sticker in this Republican area.

AN FYI for you and your friend, if that ever happens again, a hair drier on low heat and some goo-gone will get stickers off of a car with no paint damage..

Where in Pennsylvania? I haven't seen any.

Your comments really irritate me. I rarely get involved in political threads and didn't know this was gonna be one when I opened it, but your comments about God and Kerry supporters are mind boggling. Your comments about President Clinton and his bypass surgery are also mind boggling.

thank you for your opinion. I find my comments usually irritate the liberals. that's okay; because the liberals' comments usually irritate me.

I have shared an observation. If you have had a different experience, please feel free to share it with me or anyone else you would like to share it with.

As for my comments about God. . .I'm just observing that comments about God are more likely to be used by Republicans. If you disagree, that's okay. I think I'm correct, as Airforcerocks seems to think, too.

My comments about Clinton were probably a little tasteless. I don't think it was too bad, though. . .people have said much worse about him, and I certainly didn't wish him any ill-will.

Thanks again! Have a wonderful day!

Wow! I had no idea that we Kerry supporters were such heathens! LOL :teeth:

What is mind-boggling about stating one's observations?

I've seen very few cars with Kerry stickers and God Bless America stickers on the same car, whereas I've seen lots of Bush stickers on cars with God Bless America stickers. That doesn't mean that Kerry supporters are Godless heathens, it just means that it has been *my* experience that I won't normally see a GBA sticker on a car with a Kerry sticker.

When I put that together with the Kerry supporters that I know and their attitudes/beliefs in God, I base my opinion on that. I could be way off, but that's been *my* experience.

From my personal experience, Kerry supporters are much less likely to wear their religion on their sleeves-- or on their cars.

Your personal experience and mine are similar.::yes::

Wow. Thanks for everyone's opinion, I guess.

By the way, I am agnostic. I bought "The Passion" because it is a beautiful film and wanted to own it.

Our son's car has an evolution fish on it, and a Kerry bumper sticker.

I have very strong feelings about organized religion. I choose to keep them to myself and no, the are not all negative feelings. I was raised going to church and have many family members in many different churches.

My issue here is why does our RIGHT to choose whom we want for president have to cause conflict? This amazes me.

It shouldn't. The man was rude. Rudeness is never okay. IF his actions were in response to your bumper sticker he is also immature and ignorant of the great responsibility his freedom entails.

If one party is able to bully people into electing them rather than stating their agenda and getting the majority to agree that they have the best plan, then our great democratic experiment has gone horribly wrong. NO ONE should have to feel afraid to openly support their candidate of choice in a respectful manner. I don't have to agree with what you have to say, but I will always fight for your right to say it.

This Kerry supporter wears her Christianity on her sleeve, heart, signature and life. BTW so do all of my friends, the thousands of them that go to my church and in my family.

Religion may be a proponent of the right but Christianity is not the same as legalist religion.

God bless,

Robinrs

I don't understand why every is jumping to the conclusion that the bumper sticker was the issue. Maybe he felt you cut him off. Maybe you look like his ex wife or the cheerleader that dumped him in high school. Maybe he's a ford man and you were driving a chevy. Not everything is political. There are plenty of nutjobs that don't give a hoot about politics.

While you think that his reaction was because of your bumper sticker it is probably more along the lines of some perceived violation of driving courtesy. He actually, according to your post started honking before he could see the rear of your car and the bumper sticker.

This is a pretty funny thread, now before you flame me, let me dig myself out of my hole, if only a little bit....

The OP, whom I am very glad was not hurt by this maniac with the road rage, and certainly did not deserve his abuse, and did the right thing, by getting his license number, etc.

ASSUMMED that her Kerry sticker was the cause, this is a very large and possibly incorrect assumption.

Is your bumper sticker visible from the side when the guy started honking, or did he have X-Ray vision?

A young 20s guy.....hmmmm about 88.2% of them ARE rabid Democrats, perhaps you got the very last Kerry-Edwards sticker and he was jealous, but no you ASSUME he was a Bush supporter, or did I miss the post where you saw his BUSH 04 sticker when you copied down his license number? Or perhaps you saw his BUSH tattoo across his face. Since we all know there are more registered Democrats in this country, and most young (a.k.a. Rock The Vote) voters are Kerry-ites, I'm amazed you missed the simple fact that his flipping you the 'bird' was his way of stating Kerry is number 1. Or did any of you think he was a member of the Green party and objected to the vehicle the OP was driving? Or did you even entertain the thought that perhaps he was offended by the fact that your bumper sticker was not applied perfectly straight and aligned with the lines of your car? This misapplied sticker could damage the entire Kerry-Edwards-Heinz-Soros image, and risk the election!

Anyway, you make these very shaky assumptions, and then AFR and K17 get flamed for daring to make their own ASSumptions?

Sure I'm a newbe here, but its seems typical Liberal Democratic Modus Operandus (sp?) to me. Make a baseless accusation, use wildly untrue assumptions, and then howl like a banshee when a zenophobe, homophobe, gunaphile Conservative dares to disagree. Only we Liberals can make baseless assumptions, not you evil Republicans. And the real difference is that K17 even apologized for how others may have taken her President Clinton comments.

Hmmmm. must be that evil right wing conspiracy Hilary was talking about. Oh wait, her Husband DID have sex with that woman and several others, in fact in her own words she couldn't breathe when she first learned the truth from Bill. (Last to know, sad isn't it, hope she remembered to breathe again). So the new vast right wing conspiracy is to attack Kerry Bumper Sticker Owners.

Anyway, I feel the heat building up and wish to close with these thoughts.

No one deserves to be denied or prevented from expressing their views. Valid, invalid, insane, offbeat or contraversial, it doesn't matter. I'm sorry for whatever reason that you were so terribly treated, and I bet it REALLY was not because of your sticker.

I am trying to be funny about the parts of this thread that I see as hilarious, but I'm not minimizing, justifying or denying how terribly the OP was treated, nor how wrong that was!

And sadly, those of you who flamed AFR and K17 for daring to ASSUME as did the OP and those who blindly jumped on the band wagon condeming Republicans, you must have [===> CHEAP ATTEMPT TO ATTRACT A TAG FARIE FOLLOWS===> Pixie Dust for Brains (apologies to Tinker Bell). <====END OF CHEAP ATTEMPT TO ATTRACT A TAG FARIE] This behavior isn't nice, it isn't fair, it isn't rational, but it is DEMOCRATIC!

Let the flaming begin:teeth:

P.S. if you had said this was a white male, late 50s, Texan guy, who destroyed the English language when he spoke rapidly, then even I too would assume it was President Bush, himself doing a little 'campaigning', but the description just doesn't fit :jester:

P.P.S. Here is a good site for you to check out, it supports all of the conspiracy theories you guys like to quote in a scientific and mathematical way! http://www.bushisantichrist.com/

We're Massachusetts Republicans, so we pretty much go around with bullseye targets painted on us 24/7.

We've gotten LOTS of liberals harrassing us on the highways because we drove to Maine to camp quite a bit this summer.

At one campground, the campground manage came to our campsite and got into a political debate with my husband. So much for peace and quiet in the great outdoors! It ended amicably, he said he would get us a waterfront site next year!

You get used to it in the Republic of Massachusetts.

We're driving to WDW in October. Should be exciting!

Wow that never should have happened to you. Don't people know that is what makes this country great -- that we all have a choice and can show it? That being said, next time please do not stop for crazy people. Actually I like the stopping, waiting until he gets out of the car and then driving away and letting him eat your dust.

BTW -- doesn't anyone keep their voting preference to themselves? I do, nobody knows who I vote for even DH.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's scary and I agree with the other posters that you shouldn't even put your window down an inch to see what they want. The fact that he had been honking before he got close leads me to the conclusion that you probably committed some non-existent driving infraction. I live in a college town, and since school started again-I have already had two or three close calls involving me turning right with a green light while the "kids" are trying to turn across traffic with a green 'left turn only when clear' light. I go because I know I have the legal right-of-way, but have been honked at and nearly hit by students who don't want to wait their turn. People that age just don't have good driving manners.
It may have been your bumper sticker, based on other shocking actions I've read about in the thread, but I'm not 100% sure given what I experience every day. (we live close to campus and drove around town without incident all summer)
Either way, I'm sorry it happened and don't feel like you have to stop for these idiots. They aren't worth the trouble.

Well, in *my* experience, a majority of Republicans I run into are close minded and overbearing and a great many of them are out and out bigots. They also tend to be the type who are very vocal and extreme in their positions...The anti-abortion crowd for example...when's the last time you heard of a pro-choice advocate murdering someone because they were anti-abortion?

So, I'm not surprised when I hear stories of people being harassed for expressing their pro-Kerry support. It happens at lot around here.

Of course, that's just my experience and observations.

From my personal experience, Kerry supporters are much less likely to wear their religion on their sleeves-- or on their cars.

Perhaps it's because those Democrats who have strong religous beliefs choose to live their religion rather than spend their time "proving" to others just how religious and devout we are.
