I Just Had A Question About Band Camp...

DS's band director had told me that band camp was going to be next week, but since we haven't gotten anything in the mail yet, I called the school and the voice mail recording was some other guy saying HE is band director! My DS is upset - sure, the band was a little disorganized but the band director was a nice person. Thing is, we had scheduled a vacation for the end of July around the assumption the band camp is next week. What do we do if the new band director schedules band camp while we are on vacation?

At our school our percussionist have a mini camp in July, it was this week. The week before school starts is the band camp for the entire band. Do you have a band booster organization that could give you some insight? Or a band website? Sounds like you are off to a rough start.

LOL...I thought of that too late after I saw the title. I'm just really worried since school starts August 7 here there's not a lot of time other than the week we are on vacation to have band camp now. It's wait and see I guess.

Did you leave a message for the band director to call you back for clarification? I would try to talk to him to see what your options are. Our son started marching band practice this past Monday. Their camp is scheduled for the last week of July.

Wow that stinks! A new band director and changed dates? I will bet you will not be the only parent with issues.

The only thing you can do is give it your best shot and talk to the director.

Is your son a section leader or something that he has to be there?

My dd's band camp starts July 31st. She is a sophmore and plays the sax.

Wow. I can't imagine them changing the date so close without notifying everyone. Does the band have a website? Our band does and during marching season, it is ALWAYS up to date with info. Our color guard camp (as well as sectionals) start next Tuesday and then home band camp is the following week and away band camp is the week after. If you can get in touch with another band parent that might know whats going on, that might help. We always have parents that are more "in the loop" than others.

I left a message but he hasn't called me back yet. As far as the band boosters, the president is even more disorganized than the (apparently) old band director was. In May, she cancelled our booster meeting but forgot to tell anyone else but her "inner circle". Even the vice president didn't know she had cancelled the meeting until we all got to school that night. I'll try calling again on Monday. :

Wow...can you call the school or something? I hope you hear from him. Maybe the band director uses email?
