...a telemarketer (a recording) telling me about an opportunity to go to Orlando (free airfare, 2 day trip), "no obligation to buy anything"...I hung up at this point, but assume it was for a timeshare tour.

We just closed last Thursday on a BWV resale. Is this phone call related--did they get my name/phone number through some connection with our purchase--or is the timing of this just a coincidence? I hate to think that I'm now on "lists" out there.

Maryanne,
Consider it a coincidence. I get them all the time. I ask to be removed from the list, that does remove you from their list and they do sell them to other telemarketers. If you don't ask, they will keep calling.

Maryann don't worry. We get phone calls and mailings all the time from timeshare people. Gail is correct, just tell them to put you on their "Do Not Call" list. Although I have wondered, they keep calling!! Wait until you get the ones asking if you want to sell your timeshare!!

It could be related, but I don't think it would be Disney's fault. When you close they have to file your deed with the local officials which makes it public knowledge. I know there are real estate people who check on the closings DAILY!

You might want to check with your state's Attorney General about a "no-call" list. In KY, we have a "no-call" list that weeds out a lot of telemarketers. The Attorney General is currently proposing a strenghthing of this law.

It's possible it's related but I don't see that it would have been Disney releasing the info....it would have been the timeshare company or a company that trolls the recording of deeds.

Note, once you have closed it is impossible not to get on someone's list. Organizations gather everything that is recorded with the recorder of deeds and sell lists of persons identified in those publicly available filings. When we bought our existing home we started recieving mailings from businesses concentrating in new home products less than 2 weeks after we closed.

Sorry to hear about the timeshares suddenly calling. We had run into the same problem. Usually if you tell them that you just joined the DVC, they clam right up. (They know that they can't compete!)

Unfortunately everybody you have contact with these days seems to sell your information to be put on a telemarketing contact list. It would be nice to have a federal law that required these "sellers" of information to pay the individual a commission for passing along their names.

I have a neighbor who owns at Vistana. Everytime they go down I get a call a couple of weeks later saying they referred me. My neighbor knows I own DVC and I told him I'm not interested but I guess he gets pressured for a name so he keeps giving me.
