I just dont' get it - ticket differences

I sort of asked this question before, but I still don't get it. If PH+ is cheaper and unused days never expire, why would anyone buy a UPH?
We will be staying 7 days, going to the 4 major parks, atleast once a water park.
Sorry this old head is pretty thick sometimes!!

I agree with you.

The PHP never expires so if you only visit one waterpark, the leftover extras are good until next time.

The UPH is only a lenght of stay pass and expires on the final day no matter how much you see or do each day.

We really aren't commando types so we usually don't do a park and an extra in the same day.

Some people like the convenience of being able to get into DQ, PI, the waterparks and the four major parks without thinking about how many days they have left.

For people staying 1 or 2 nights, it allows them to hop from park to park during their stay. You cannot purchase a 1-day or 2-day PH.

And lastly, believe it or not, there are some people who have no intention of returning to WDW and have no need for a pass that never expires.

Also alot of the packages include UPH (lenght of stay) passes. It really depends on your personal needs.
Anyone who booked the Fairytale package this past summer had UPH no chioce...if you had old passes to use you just keep them for next time.
You say your staying 7 days doing 4 parks and one water park. Are you going to do more then one day in any park? Are you planning the water park to be a half day?
You really need to look at prices and what works best for you.

I think Kim was referring to visiting a theme park (using a day off the Park Hopper), followed by a visit to Pleasure Island (using a PLUS day odd the Hopper Plus.

My two cents, I think that the UPH is geared toward the first time WDW visitor booking on a package, who is happy to have it everything paid for and taken cared of in advance. There are many people who do not want to stress out on vacation planning details or worrying about what the best deal on tickets are.

There is also a market for people vacationing with family/friends who already have AP/PAPs. This will give them access to all the parks that their unofficial Disney tour guides have.

I do not see that guestion answered yet, unless I am reading it incorrectly. A parkhopper pass is good for any and all parks in any given day. If you have the time you can go to all four parks in the same day with it. The plus factor means that you can do the other stuff as well.

So with a PH+ you can go to for example:
DAY 1: MK in the morning , Epcot in the afternoon .
DAY 2: MK in the morning, Typhoon Lagoon in the afternoon.
DAY 3: Epcot all day
DAY 4: AK all day
DAY 5: MGM in the morning, Blizzard Beach in the afternoon
ETC, ETC...
You can go to all four major parks and water parks as much and as often as you want???????
Wouldn't you think the PH+ would be the more expensive since the unused portion never expires?

Well ---- not quite....

With a Parkhopper pass, you can hop back & forth between the 4 parks all day long (this uses up 1 day on hopper)...

ALSO your Parkhopper PLUS pass gives you "plus options" (I think a list that you can choose 2 "1 time admissions" from if you've got a 5-day PHP)

So -- You can hop around the 4 parks for 5 different days..... and

A) Use your 2 options on 2 non-park days (this actually gives you 7 days of fun)

B) You can hop the 4 parks and use one of your "Plus Options" also on that same day and go to (for instance) Blizzard Beach (or another option choice).

Hope I haven't made this more confusing.

The difference between a UPH and PH+ is that with a UPH you can go to all 4 parks, the water parks, DQ, and PI as much as you want throughout your stay. You could go to a waterpark and regular park everyday and PI/DQ everynight. With a PH+ you can go to the 4 parks as much as you want during those 7 days (if it's a 7 day PH+), but can only go to water parks, DQ, PI for the number of plusses you have. For example, if you have 4 plusses then you can go to the other parks 4 times. You can use those 4 times in one day or over 4 days, but once you have made 4 visits, that's it. With the UPH you're not limited to a certain number of visits, you can go as much as you want, which is why they cost more. Even though they expire when you check out, since you get unlimited visits while you're there, they charge you more.

We usually get PAPs, so when we bring a niece or someone else along with us, we get them the UPH so they can go anywhere we go without having to worry about using up all the pluses. In June, we took our niece and we hit the water parks about four times in the seven days she was with us. We also went to DQ so we wouldn't have had the pluses to do all of these.

Sometimes we just hop over to a water park for an hour or two. The UPH works better for that.

When DS and I went to disney in 2001, we got the 5 day PHP with 4 plus options. This allowed us to enter a major park 5 of the 7 days we were there. During the planning stages this looked like a great idea. NOT.

My son wanted to go to DQ one night but I didn't want to pay the extra money for just a few hours. The Blizzard Beach day was nice but that night we both wanted to go the Magic Kingdom to see Spectromagic. Of course we couldn't waste a park day just to watch a parade.

By the end of the trip I was angry with myself for not getting the UPHP. Our last day there, were "wasted" a park day to enter Epcot. We got there of EE, rode test track twice, walked around a bit and left the park @ 9:00am.

I think the UPHP gives you the freedom to come and go as you please.

Whenever we return to disney, we will have UPHP or PAP.

I do think you need to plan well with the PHP...like make sure you get your hand stamped so you can visit another park on the same day so you don't lose a day cause you are done with one park early in the day. we always jump from park to park after we spend one day in each to redo the things we like best. also know basically what is going on in the parks when you plan to visit so you can combine the different parades or what ever with a park day. I do not believe DQ is included on the PHP pluses, the water parks and PI are. I think most people who buy uph probably get them with a package and so the decision is made for them. other wise why would you spend more for something you lose after you leave instead of paying less for something you can keep..for example we probably will have most of our pluses left unless we go to a water park but we can eventually use them and want the 7 day PHP . I don't think there is a 7 day Ph and a 5 /2 or some other combo to make 7 costs as much or more as the PHP.

I wouldn't mind spending more for the UPHP because it would allow me to come and go as I please. DQ and the water parks
are very high on my son's must do list. With the UPHP we can do all three as often as he wants.

For me the freedom of the UPHP out weigh the savings of the PHP.

Well, I think your logic is a bit flawed here. In order to do an apples-to-apples comparison, you would need to compare a 5 day PHP to a 5 day UPH. The (gate) prices are as follows:

5 Day PHP: 286.50
5 Day UPH: 289.68

Yes, the PHP is technically cheaper, but the difference is negligible.

Conceivably you could "save" money by using a 5 day PHP over a 7 day trip. But you're sacrificing 2 days in the main theme parks, so you can't do a fair economic comparison of a 5 day PHP vs 7 day UPH.

If you value the ability to come and go as you please, the UPH is the way to go. If you want to go to a water park for a couple of hours, then over to a theme park for the bulk of the day, then Pleasure Island at night, go with the UPH. If you want to visit DisneyQuest, go with the UPH. DisneyQuest admission is not covered by the PHP.

with the park hopper plus passes you can do every thing but the disney quest. also, unless you make 3 seperate reservations ( one for arrival day, one for majority of stay and one for departure day) with the UPH you are paying for those arrival days and departure days as park days whether or not you use them. If you get in late or leave early too bad. They are good from check in till mid night on departure day. so unless you can use them you are really paying for 7 park days but only getting 5, same if you want to not go to a park or water park and go to universal or lay around your resort pool or anything else, you still paid for a WDW admission for that day. if you are a Disney Quest lover You can buy an annual pass for Disney Quest and I think one of the ticket brokers offers a multiple day pass for DQ but I don't remember the cost so do not know how that compares. (we have never gone, might try it this time but most reviews on here have been mixed so it depends on what you like) I compared the prices and the Uph was more since we won't be able to use it our entire lenght of stay( won't be going into a park 3 days... arrival day may go to DQ if it isn't crowded, think the one day pass is on sale somewhere for $21, going to go to the WDW nature preserve one day, not included on any pass I know of and have to leave too early the last day) plus with the php options that you can use for Plesure Island or the water parks or the sports complex ( 3 for a 6 day PHP ,4 for a7 day Php) we technically would need to buy an premium annual pass( if we want to go to DQ on it and think that baby is around $500!) or UPH for 9 days ( our length of stay).no way would we have the stamina to go to a park, then a water park then back to a park in one day! (Old folks LOL!!! acutally we could by using a plus option for the waterpark for that day as you can use the plus options same day or seperate from the park options but never ever would consider it!!!)) we do frequently "hop" from theme park to theme park but that is allowable with either pass ( hence the names!) I have never felt that was worth it but it would depend on your schedule. you can go to www.mousesavers.com and check out all prices. then make out a rough outline for your stay and see which is cheaper for you. Way to many things to consider!!!

Actually, one thing I did not like about the UPH is that it is harder to build a day off during the stay... Why would you spend a day sitting around the hotel pool or shopping at DTD or hotel hopping when admission to the parks is already paid for. If you are going to spend every day in a park the UPH is the way to go but if you just want a relaxing day at the pool the PHP. Unfortunately, Disney is trying to push the UPH option since most deals lately have been package only. I still have 3 days left on a 5d hopper from 10 years ago that I don't know if it will ever get used unless I can get a good room only deal on the next trip.

you can go to Pi ( but not to DQ) for 4 nights of your stay with a 7 day PHP..evidently this shows the age difference cause after 4 days we need to rest at night (LOL) and after dinner usually just vegg around the resort with a cup of coffee! Course we also did that when we first went 20 yrs ago so maybe we just like to Vegg!
