I just can't get excited about December trip...

We were supposed to be going this month but DS is having a really hard time in school this year, so we postponed it till Dec 22-27th. Of course, I don't let him see that I'm disappointed - I just say "It'll be even better in December" to the kids - but I'm not convinced myself.

I was looking so forward to Oct weather and light crowds and now we've switched to uncertain weather and definite crowds. It's in the 60s here at home today and that's just TOO COOL for my tastes.

Maybe I'll get more excited when it gets closer, but right now I'm feeling depressed about HAVING to go to DW in December. I guess that's a pretty silly thing to be depressed about!

We were at WDW last Dec. 21 - 25. The weather was not cool until the 25th. And the crowds were not heavy until the 24th. Does that help you to feel any better about the trip? I hope so.

At least this way you will get to see all of the beautiful Christmas decorations! If you have time resort hop, at least along the monorail, so you can see their decorations. The gingerbread house at the GF was HUGE!

Hope you have a great trip!

We've never actually been to WDW on Xmas itself, however, we've gone during the first two weeks of Dec MANY times. This is my absolute favorite time to visit the World.
The weather is usually low to mid 70's during the day and cooler in the evening. I'd much rather tour the parks in a light jacket than to sweat bullets standing in the shade.
If you've never been to WDW during the Xmas season you're in for a real treat. The parks are incredible at night. As others have said, if you get a chance to resort hop the decorations there are very nice as well. In particular CR, GF, Y&BC, WL.
I have a WDW at Xmas video I know would get you excited!!!

Thanks to both of you. I'm hoping for warming than normal December temperatures and tolerable crowds. Still disappointed that we couldn't go in October, but there is just no what that would work under the circumstances.

I'm sure I'll look forward to it more as it gets closer. I guess I know not to go to MK on Christmas Day and hopefully we will get a couple of days of it not being so crowded before then.

I still want an October trip though! Next year I'm gonna look at the school schedule first, then plan a trip when they have days off for conferences - a short trip, but still an October trip. This year I made plans not yet knowing the schedule and not knowing this year was going to be such a struggle!

We'll be there on the 8th and I just can't wait to see Disney at this time. Think of it this way. By Nov. your trip would be over, but instead, you can just start getting excited about going! Maybe you can do the Christmas Party too? That would certainly up the excitment level and you could'n't do that in Oct. Have fun! Tonia

There are so many special things that go on in December, we are usually disappointed if we go other times of year. The arch of lights in EPCOT is stunning. The ice rink in the Marketplace is a blast to watch even if you don't skate. And the decorations everyplace are special in their own ways and themes. We'll be there, and it has always been warm enough for us to swim. And living in a climate with no winter it has to be fairly warm for us to consider going in a pool!

Hi perd, just another small voice saying December is a perfectly wonderful time to go to WDW. Must confess, I have never been at Christmas time but the second and third weeks have been wonderful - both weather and crowds. Sure you will have bigger crowds at Christmas time but I'm betting you will wind up loving it - and maybe decide it's the perfect time for your next trip. Wishing the very best to you AND your son.

Hey Perd you know the weather at WDW at Christmas is going to be better than the weather in Kansas:D Plus you have the expertise of the Dis to help you work around the crowds(EE and ressie tips, etc.) so at least you won't be lost among the throngs of people. As others have said, the decorations are awesome around the holidays. If the crowds really don't get bad till 12/24(like last year) you can hit the busiest attractions(probably MK) your first two days and leave the rest for the heavier times. Best of all, you won't have grades and school work hanging over you!

At lease you are going , I am not going till next June, argh, that seems so far away for me, I wish I could go near Christmas time, you are soooooooooooo lucky. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

perd, it is BEAUTIFUL in December at Disney World. You will love it. I have been there the past three years, and it was a touch chilly in the evenings back in '99, but the past two years was like great fall weather in the Midwest, with the days as warm as can be. Micca has some good thoughts there, logistic-wise. You'll love it, enjoy!!! :sunny:

My mom used to say if you can't change the situation, it's time to change your attitude! It fits here. Think of it this way, perd, at least you are GOING. I don't even have a trip on the horizon. Oh, and how I long to see WDW at Christmas. And you are being a good parent by not taking him out of school if he's struggling. That is so much more important in the big picture.

Everything will work out great!! You are so lucky!!!!!

Yeah, I know I sound like a spoiled brat. Boy, would I have something to say to my kids if they were complaining about something so trivial! Just so much time and energy and money going into it that I'm worried we'll be disappointed with the weather and crowds. But you are right - I just have to deal with what is. I've already decided we will just go prepared for weather and crowds and have fun no matter what. DS wouldn't care if it snowed and we spent the entire week inside Disney Quest. I'm just not to the point that I can get excited about it yet. DH will probably love the weather (he can't stand heat and humidity) but he HATES crowds. I am more tolerant of crowds; I can go with the flow as far as that is concerned. But I'm a warm weather person and anything under 70 to me is chilly and 70 is borderline!

Micca, you are right about not having the homework and grades hanging over our heads, not worrying about what he's missing while he's gone, etc. And that the weather will be better than in Kansas. Heck, there have been Christmases in Kansas that we were wearing T-shirts and jeans because it was so warm. So I hope it's that kind of Christmas in Kansas and even warmer in Florida (I need to be wearing shorts, you know, because all my jeans SHRUNK over the summer!)

I know TL is closed during December, but the kids really had their hearts set on going to one of the water parks. I really hope it's warm enough to spend at least part of a day at Blizzard Beach - I thought maybe even CHRISTMAS day, thinking maybe it will be less crowded there than anywhere else.

Okay, I'm changing my attitude. I'll throw in some sweatshirts to make sure I don't get cold. And either buy some big jeans or do an end of summer crash diet to get back in my jeans. I think if I let myself be hungry for a week or two I could get them zipped...

Regarding just sweatshirts, and not to make you think it WILL be cold, but make sure you follow the weather forecasts as you get out near the time. Great one here on the DIS http://www.wdwinfo.com/newsroom/weather.html and I have Orlando in my spinner clipart below. It can get cold in the evenings, not necessarily so though. But you do need to be prepared for chilly weather, just an FYI.

I'll throw in some sweatshirts to make sure I don't get cold.

Or you could leave them at home then have some shopping to do when you get to the parks! ;) They have some really nice sweatshirts down there! It would be a great souvenir also.

THAT's the spirit, perd!! Enjoy!
