I called SoG yesterday & was told they will definately be open on March 1, restaurants and all. We had ressies for the week of 3/12. I decided to cancel. I'm really excited to see the 'new' resort, but I really think they have a long way to go on the 'improved' part judging from the web cam!!

I have back-up ressies at POR and CBR that were only $10 more per night than SoG (love those codes!). I decided I would pay an extra $10 a night for atmosphere!

We'll try SoG on our next trip - who knows when that will be - just got orders to Anchorage, Alaska! Anyone up for Mickey's Arctic Adventure???:earseek:

Hey! I need a blue freezing emoticon!!

Thanks for the info, Sk8ingmom. We have ressies at SoG for the same time frame. I too made back up ressies at POR. I think I will cancel the SoG ressies and stick with POR.

I was hoping SoG would realize that they won't be ready and put us somewhere else, like the CR, again.

Leader of the Club- Yeah, I was also hoping for a CR move, but was basically told it wouldn't happen. I didn't want to miss my 30 day window to get my deposit $$ back. When will you be at POR? We'll be there 3/12-14 before our cruise.

MAGICinMYHEART - thanks for the freezing guys!

Even with the cancellations, I think they are going to be pretty busy in March. We had been waitlisted for 26-30, and got the call yesterday that nothing will be available.

not that it matters, since we had already decided to stay at the Dolphin :)

I am interested in seeing the new resort. maybe we'll try it in July.

I think that is smart and safe move.

I'm not a real trusting fan of SOG management to put my faith in them actually opening in any real sense during March. I do love the location and rates though. :)

I am a little confused:confused: Why would you make a "backup" ressie? If SOG does not open on time, they are responsible for finding you accomodations that are equivalent to what you have reserved with them. They WILL offer you a mod or value at a significant discount, but will first offer you a room at whatever deluxe has been determined to be their backup (like Cont. has been).

By being patient and waiting for THEIR call, you may save significantly more than you doing your own "backup".

Yes?

I only had 6 days left to cancel & still get my deposit back (they have a 30 day cancelation policy). I hung on to the ressie HOPING they would offer us CR or another deluxe. Since we are going during spring break, I was worried about SoG finding an on-property backup. They usually have on-property back-ups, but it is not guaranteed. It doesn't really matter anyway...they ARE going to open March 1 - even though it's only 3 weeks away and it still looks like they are under major construction. I decided to not deal with it for a measly $40 price difference.

To each his/her own!

Like I said, I was confused!

I am holding a ressie at SOG for the end of May and, quite frankly, don't care whether they open on time or not! Kinda hoping they would move us! (I want to stay there but dd15 does not).

I can't imagine that they would place a person off-site. Guess we will just wait and see if anyone posts anything to the contrary.

Hope you have a wonderful time!

We have stayed at POR a few times and DD was actually wanting to try CBR! We both did not like AKL last summer, just wasn't our "cup of tea". May end up staying at Swan or Dolphin to use my boss' points. Haven't made up our minds yet!

We had a bad experience with SOG when we had a reservation and when we got there they said they were booked up - sorry. They found us something alright .... off property. This did not set well with me or my wife. So, at a serious increase in cost to me we stayed at the Grand Floridian instead. They did not make the reservation for me - I had to call for myself.

This does not mean to say I do not like SOG. Rather, I do like SOG and have stayed there. I'd just be wary of the management of this property. Better safe than sorry.

I'm imagining how this opening will be. But am being positive! :)
