I Just Called Southwest with Questions

I was really concerned about the carry on situation. I'd heard purses or waist packs only, but since I carry a backpack as my purse was a little worried. So, I asked about carryon and was told one per person, for the time being, and that my backpack would be fine--whew!

We'll be travelling with my 5 year old grandson and was told that we'd need i.d. for him--birth certificate is fine as is his passport (actually, she seemed thrilled that he had a passport and said that would be the best).

She also suggested we get to the airport two hours prior to our flight.

I didn't even think to ask about what items we could carry on! I'll have to call back in a few days, I guess.

Hope this helps someone else!

Hi! I called Southwest too today with some questions about my flight tomorrow. I was told 2 carry-ons per person were being accepted...... Hmmm... makes you wonder. I am planning on 2 carry-ons (sm. bag & stroller) and so is my son (sm. bag & stuffed Mickey) ....

I'll let you know when I return what the REAL story is....

I know this is going to sound bad, but I think SW is using this to really try to clamp down on carryons. They have always been the most agresssive about controlling carry ons since lots of carryons slow down their turn time. I dont' blame them and think that ALL airlines need to do a better job not just for safety. What some people try to carry on amazes me! I once saw a giant bud sign from a bar!

I dont' think it sounds bad at all! I would actually love to see the airlines crack down on carryons. I, too, have been amazed at times!

threeboysmom,
Strollers are not considered carryons. They never get on the plane as they are "gate checked" before you board the plane.
SWA is allowing two carryons in addition to two checked bags.
