I haven't been able to book a studio at SSR for our first night (10/7) at Disney for the longest time now. So I booked us a room at the Dolphin (which we have never stayed at and had pumped ourselves up for). I just so happened to be modifying the names on our reservation with MS and asked if they had any studios for SSR available and they did so I booked it. I called dh at work to let him know of the change and he was bummed. I told him that it would save us $200, we wouldn't have to change resorts, and that we could possibly dump our rental car. He was still bummed. Oops! I thought that I was doing the right thing. I think that he will realize what a good choice I made once we get settled in.

While the Dolphin is a great place (DW & I stayed one night before first podcast cruise), I think you made the right decision. Your DH will agree soon enough.

:thumbsup2 The Swalphin is absolutely beautiful and I am sure he was psyched about the location.....but I absolutely agree that you did the right thing. One night at a nice non DVC resort is great...but staying DVC without moving and getting all the ammenities...priceless. Just do the Jedi Mind Trick and he will forget all about it...all you do is wave your hand in front of his face a say "you don't want to stay at Swalphin, you are stoked about staying at SSR"...should do the trick. ;)

lol!

We switched from a 2br to a studio at BCV one time and we swore we wouldn't do it again. I forgot about that until now. I also decided to keep the rental car since we are taking the kids to Universal one day and the day after that we have to get his mom and stepdad from their hotel over by Universal. Oh and so we can do some off site dining also. He'll be fine.

You made the right decision! That's exactly why you bought DVC. You have already paid for that night. I only pay for another hotel unless it's absolutely necessary! I have several other timeshares, points based and weeks and I'll do just about anything to keep from paying for nights "out of pocket" Good choice!:thumbsup2:worship:

You might think about doing a meal at the Garden Grove, a hidden gem of a restaurant at the Swan. They do a nice breakfast buffet that is much cheaper than the Disney-owned restaurants, and they have characters on certain days. Also, if you are going during free dining, they do not participate, which means it is MUCH less crowded for those of us not doing the free dining. They don't take reservations, but don't let that worry you.

Have fun!

It sounds like you made the right choice why pay oop and move resorts if you don't have to.

You made the right choice for him. Visit the Dolphin for a brief time and experience the lobby. Then get ready for all of the hugs and kisses you will get for switching to a "Vacation" spot.

We love to visit all of the different WDW resorts at different seasons to experience the differences, but I can't spend any time in the lobbies of either the Dolphin or Swan! The business hub-bub is all around; people in business attire, laptops out, people making business conversation in the lobby, the fast paced here to there movements of business people on the go . . . I leave all that when I go to The World. The anxiety builds at a high rate as I stand in those lobbies. Help, get me out!

Don't flame me here, the Swan and Dolphin are fine hotels; but just that. I want to relax and forget all that jockeying for position in the business world. I enjoy SSR for the laid back family atmosphere where time is slower and everything brings a smile to my face.

Sometimes the right decision isn't evident until after the fact. Hang in.

You did good! We "HAD" to stay at the Dolphin for a business trip DH took 2 years ago. We combined it with an OKW trip, so we moved from a 1 bedroom at OKW to a Dolphin room and then back to a 1 bedroom at OKW. I would have given anything to have been able to stay at OKW that whole time. We hated the maze of hallways at the Dolphin and the strange perfume smell the lobby always had. We also disliked all the walking we had to do to go to Epcot and DHS. We tried taking the boat, but that always seemed to take WAY TOO LONG, and bus service to the Dolphin was not the best either. We were VERY HAPPY to get back to our DVC digs!:thumbsup2

Just tell him that as soon as they finish the monorail line through the building, you'll stay there...promise :lmao:
