I was sitting with DS while he was munching in his high chair and he started to choke on pieces of his graham cracker. I froze for a split second but then the safety course training I had kicked in and I was able to take care of it.

Thankfully he is fine! He was scared but after a little TLC he was ready to eat some more.

If you have not already taken safety/first-aid/CPR course I would highly recommend them especially if you have little kids. If I had not taken that course I am not sure what I would have done.

Oh how scared you must have been. Thank you for the reminder.

i was required by the hospital i had DS in to take infant CPR courses before they would release him to me. although some women complained... i think it is wonderful.

VERY wise advice, becka! My daughter choked on a Ritz bit cracker a couple of years ago (she was 7 at the time) and I had to perform a Heimlich maneuver on her. Thankfully she was fine too!

Great advice! I teach a babysitting course for the Red Cross and can also teach CPR/AED course as well. Call your local chapter to see what they hae available.

Glad you knew what to do and that all is well!!!

That's excellent advice. I'm so glad you knew what to do and the baby is alright.

Thank goodness Nathan is ok. It's funny how the things we've learned come to mind when we need them, even when we are really scarred.

becka I glad all turned out well. You are right everyone should take a cpr/first aid course. I was so glad my Dd did, she saved a friends baby who was choking.

So scary. DD got the cheese from a mozzarella stuck caught in her throat a few weeks ago. Luckily, it was only a moment but it felt like forever. And I have to admit, instead of being calm, I panicked.

Back when my oldest DD was an infant, she was sitting in her swing in the dining room while I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. I heard her make a strange sound and turned around to see her choking. Just like you, I froze for a moment...stunned and confused. She was sitting in the swing, no food or toys in hand. I grabbed her out and flipped her head down and started to pat on her back (I also had to learn infant cpr at the hospital!) Out popped a penny!!!:earseek: My DS (about 2) walked up and announced to me that "the baby wanted a penny"!!

Gotta few gray hairs that day!:bounce:

I'm glad things turned out OK! Let me tell you that is the ONE thing I hate!
Well make sure you keep it updated as I have had to use the Heimleich on 11yo DD TWICE in the last year! She keeps choking on chicken.
I keep telling her smaller bites!
