Well, I guess I am just looking for a little sympathy. But I am also worried. I was putting a boxblade on my tractor tonight and stumbled a bit. I hit my shin on the boxblade and, well, let's just say I left a piece of myself on the field today. I just got something like 15 stitches on my left shin. I need some advice because I leave on Saturday for the Fort. I will need to find somewhere down there to have the sutures removed. Anyone ever had to deal with something like this before?

Yikes! That sounds painful!

Does your doctor have any way of contacting/recommending someone in the area?

It's a slightly different situation, but a friend's pediatrician was able to contact another pediatrician when my friend moved. Just a thought.

:scared1: That must have been a horrible shock!!! I hope it isn't too painful for you to get around. Maybe you should consider bringing a walking stick just in case.

Man that sucks,,I am such a wuzz for pain,,sounds like it hurts.
Can't help you with medical help in Florida,,but before you leave, you might wanna ask your doc to prescribe some anti-inflammatories for you to help with swelling while you are at the Fort,,
you'll be on your legs a little more than usual .

There are two "Doc in the Box" close to FW that should be able to help you out. One is out on 535 near the Crossroads and the other is on Celebration Blvd. not far from the World Drive Celebration Blvd. intersection. If I can find out the hours I will post them for you. Florida Hospital Celebration is also close by but they are more expensive than the "Doc in the Box."

Buena Vista Centra-Care is the closest to the Fort. The address is 12500 State Rd 535. The easiest way to get there is:

Take a left when you exit the Fort. (Vista Blvd)

Take Vista Blvd straight for about 2.5 miles until it ends at County Road 535 (Winter Garden Vineland Rd), turn right.

Go straight on CR535 to first MAJOR intersection (about 5 miles), to Apopka-Vineland Rd - State Road 535, turn right.

Centra-Care will be less than a 1/2 mile on the right side.

When you exit Centra-Care, don't go back the same way you came. You won't be able to make a left turn back on to S.R. 535. Turn right out of the parking lot and stay in the right lane. Head to the intersection taking you to Downtown Disney (Crossroads Shopping Center will be on the left and Walt Disney World signs will be on the right) - about 3/4 of a block down. You'll recognize it. Turn right, and you will easily find your way back to the Fort from there.

If you want to call ahead to see if they will accept your insurance or to make an appointment, call 407-238-2000.

Thanks so much for the info everyone. I stayed home from work today to help the healing process. I don't THINK I am a wuss for pain, but this one does actually hurt a bit. Thankfully the doc gave me some good painkillers. I really appreciate the information.

Bottle of peroxide, some 2X2 gauze, iris scissors and some tweezers. Find a nice chair under your awning. Take em out.

It would take a couple Kungaloosh's first before I would take my own sutures out. Maybe 3.

Bob, I hope the leg heals quickly. Sorry about the injury, and sure hope it doesn't cause you any problems at Disney.

Sorry to hear about your injury.

But, I can't think of a better place to go and recuperate.

Have a fun trip.

And be more careful next time (I'm figuring Mrs. Robert6401 beat me to the punch on this gem of wisdom).

I am kinda in the same boat, I sprained my ankle Sunday morning on a tree root. No blood but I am limping. We will be at the Fort Saturday also.
We can limp around together.:rotfl:

Just an FYI, if you don't feel like driving yourself, Centra Care will pick you up from your resort and deliver you back for FREE!!

Ohh, that sounds like it hurts. Gives me the chills to think about it. I hope it heals quickly!

Owie! Hope everything heals OK and that you still have a wonderful vacation. BTW - A bad day at the Fort is better than any day at home. :thumbsup2

Easy for you to say Jim! :scared1:

I would suggest 4 and then let your wife do it so you don't hurt yourself taking them out! ;)

Back a hundred years ago, give or take a few, a friend of mine water skied across my leg which resulted in about 10 stitches to close up the gash. Fast forward to a week later when the stitches had to come out...

I went to the company nurse at the place where I worked to see if she would take them out for me, and of course she said "yes". She got out her scissors and tweezers and laid them on the table, when her phone rang... Long story short, by the time she got back to me, I already had them out and was ready to go back to work.

Its not that hard, nor is it painful. Just snip the knot, then pull the stitch out gently. If they are "ready" to come out, then they will pull through the skin very easily. If not, then wait a day or two and try again....

Just pay your co-pay to the receptionist on your way out!

On one of our trips down to the fort our DS rolled out of the bed in the TT and busted his chin open on the floor. We went to the ER at some small town in Florida. The sutures needed to come out while we were still on vacation. I asked for a suture removal kit at the ER. The nurse explained how to do it, so on the appointed day I took the stitiches out. It was very easy to do. Just something to consider :).
If I was there I'd take them out for you.....I now have lots a practice...I'm a pediatric nurse and I take stitiches out at least once a week !!!
Have a great time at the Fort and WDW.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and kind words. I am getting around fairly well, just favoring the left leg a little. Back at work today. I wouldn't have a problem taking a shot of Rock and Rye and pulling them out myself, but they are on a spot on my leg that is kind of hard for me to get to - I'm not the most flexible person in the world. So, I would have to ask my wife to do it and while she has a strong stomach for most things I don't know that she would be able to do that. Maybe I will take up Jen's offer to remove them. :confused3

Let's see, 10 days from Monday would be Thursday July 1st. You have any open appointments Jen?:worship:
