I Heard A Rumour!

I have always thought it was degrading to replace a classic, Main Street Bakery with the most famous cinnamon rolls in the land, and put in a corporate sponsor. How much greed is enough?

ITA. ..I like Joffrey's. I have been drinking coffee since I was 4 and prefer to drink it black....maybe a little cream or coconut milk. Starbucks Coffee black is absolutely disgusting....makes my skin crawl. I don't really like seeing Starbucks in the parks but as long as there remains some good tasting coffee, I'll be fine. We have a local shop here in Peoria called 30/30.....their coffee is fantastic, but not sure how well know outside the area.

I agree the Starbucks Pike is just awful. I do however like their Blonde Roast...if I must drink Starbucks.

I don't get some of the references people are making. Gatorade and Coke are sold at Disney stores throughout Disney, there aren't Gatorade owned (or leased) stores. Sure, Coke has the thing in Epcot, but it's free and you're tasting what other cultures drink.
I wouldn't have a problem if Starbucks coffee was sold at a Disney store front, but selling such prime locations is a bit concerning. McDonalds is already on property, how long until they offer a dollar amount that Disney just can't refuse. Right next to Starbucks, you'll be able to get a Big Mac on Main Street.

That's exactly what it is. Those locations in the parks are Disney owned and operated. They just sell Starbucks items. The ones at DTD ARE Starbucks owned and operated however.

I believe the problem is the perception. Take a look at Casey's Corner.

If there were Coca-Cola stores in every town. People would be up in arms about this because "Coke is invading Main Street". But people realize it's just a brand item they are selling. Not a corporate retail location.

However, since Starbucks retail locations are so prevalent in the real world, people see Starbucks on the window and automatically assume Disney is selling off Main Street.

McDonald's is not on property--unless you're counting the stand-alone restaurant near Blizzard Beach which I believe technically rests on Disney land. McD's food was phased-out of the theme parks between 2007-2008 and the Downtown Disney location closed a year or two later.

It interesting to read people's takes on Starbucks...even if I don't agree with everyone. But let's not use this to deduce that there will be WalMarts and Taco Bells on Main Street in a year or two. That's a straw man.

I could 100% see an old style McDonalds on Main Street and I believe Disney would go that route if they were offered enough money. I never said anything about Taco Bell or Wal Mart and don't believe either of those would ever end up on property. And yes, I was talking about the stand alone McDonalds by Blizzard Beach.

By the way, Starbucks is the only stop I make on Main Street---just don't like where it is located in MK.

I am not on here to argue I just want to say how disappointed I am that Disney let Starbucks in the parks!

I really do miss the hazelnut brewed coffee.. It doesn't state anything like Starbucks with hazelnut syrup.. Gross...

I really don't see Disney letting in a food company however. They have SO much of their own food to market and sell why would the want to share the capital?

Times change. Starbucks is very popular, especially with the younger crowd. The coffee is profitable and desired by a majority of guests. Disney gets a name brand and outside investment, Starbucks gets awesome exposure in a positive setting. People happy. Starbucks happy. Disney happy. Win-win-win. That simple. Now if you are in the minority that dislikes Starbucks coffee, you have a reason to be sad. But it was still a good move for all parties.

Disney from day 1 sought all kinds of corporate tie-ins and deals. If a deal is made with Mc Donalds or WalMart, Walt would be happy.

And now that I think about it, even outside of Disney in that good ol' Main Street USA of the past, the businesses had Coca Cola signs, and Pepsid signs, and signs for questionable remedies. It is a part of life in and out of Disney, now and in the past.
