I was reading a WDW book and it said that if the movie Cars does well then Disney is going to make the Tomorrowland Indy speedway have a cars theme. I think that is a bad idea because that ride is in Tomorrowland and I think the "cars" would not fit in. Plus Disney is messing up all the old and original rides. Has anyone heard this about the indy speedway ride? Thanks!:thumbsup2

Just wondering, but how would talking cars not fit into Tomorrowland :confused3 ?? Seems pretty "futuristic" to me. I also read this in the Unofficial Guide, guess we`ll just have to wait and see :hourglass .

It seems like the majority of the rides based on movies go in Fantasyland. (but not all) Plus Tomorrowland has the chrome theme.

I think the cars from Cars would fit nice with Buzz, and Stitch.

Actually, I don't see how the current Indy Raceway fits into Tomorrowland. Adding the vehicles from "Cars" might add a bit of interest and theming to a ride that lacks these at the moment.

I agree. The current ride has no appeal for me right now. If it had a "CARS" overlay that could make it at least somewhat interesting.

In my opinion (and that's all this is) any change to Indy Speedway would be a good one. I think Cars would be a great addition. Besides, Indy Speedway is kind of in between Tomorrowland and Fantasyland not to mention near the entrance of Toontown. I think it would work out smashingly (sounds very British...righto!) :rotfl:

I was wondering if they might do something like that. I was thinking when Herbie Fully Loaded came out we might see a change but this is even better. The speedway is in need of a major overhaul.

I agree w/ the other posters. Do something to make this ride fun, please! :Pinkbounc

Isn't the Tomorrowland Speedway right near Mickey's Toontown? I think they could make the attraction have big, brightly colored cars (as from Cars) to be more appealing (think Pete's Garage).

while they're at it, make them electric so they're less noisy and put fake racecar sounds in the cabin area instead

Well how do regular Cars fit into Tomorrowland? :confused3 That always confused me anyways.

I agree that there has been too much of adding characters to old rides in some cases (The Nightmare on Tiki St) but I was neevr interested in the Speedway myself; perhaps this would make it more interesting! It could use some new touchups anyways

At risk of saying the wrong thing, the Speedway was Walt's idea of the "highway of tomorrow"... Interstates are still a relatively new feature of our highway system.

The current relationship with the real Indianapolis Speedway may delay such a move, but I have no idea what's in the contract.

The old Tomorrowland Speedway cars need to be in the junkyard anyway.

My only wish about Tomorrowland Speedway is if they would take out that thing in the middle that makes the cars stay on that certain path. It would never happen of course due to safety concerns. It would make it more fun. As an adult and after years of driving, what's the point in driving those things anyway. There are mainly for kids under 13 when driving is a novelty.

I always find it funny to hear people griping about Tommorowland Speedway, yet when we walk by it, the line is always a mile long. This is one of those rides that we love as children and lose it's meaning once we get older.

I think an update would be great. Electric cars would be a nice start. More eco-friendly, and quieter. Then not only should they use the body stylings from Cars, but they can add a few other Disney touches. How about jumping into a Herbie, or the taxi from Roger Rabbit (which I know they have a Roger Rabbit ride at DL, but that movie is completely forgotten at WDW. . .yet remains a very important stepping stone in Disney's animation path). They can just add several different famous cars. And add sounds because there isn't a noisy lawn mower engine attached.

I do think that a Cars theme would work in Tommorowland. Like Buzz Lightyear, they are from a Pixar film, and isn't the computer animation from that studio the future of animation?

I bet that DL-HK gets a "Cars" themed ride first. I don't think they have built it yet. So it would be easy to do now.

I for one would love this change. I love Cars and I haven't even seen it yet. My DS8 is having so much fun with these cartoon characters and is so excited to see Tow Matter & Lighting McQueen in the parade at MGM. I think the Indy Speedway needs something to bring it up to date and make it more appealing. Of course that would mean longer lines..........YIKES! Maybe they could address the speed of the lines as well, who knows.

I think that would be awesome! You can ride cars like the current ones at most amusement parks.

This would be great if they could make them electric. They are so noisy my DD6 won't go near them and then all that heat they generate and the exhaust is just gross. We have an indoor amusement park and they have a go cart track and just plug in the cars for a few minutes between races so I would think they would be able to come up with something to keep them charged up.

Plus, if they used the characters from cars, they could have the "Sally" car and maybe girls would be more interested in this attraction.
