First time flying on Hawaiian Airlines going to Aulani. If anyone has ever flown on Comfort Plus, is it worth the upgrade? I went ahead and booked them for the way there, but wondering if I should do it on the way back too

I think you mean Hawaiian Airlines, operated by Alaska Airlines… OCONUS on OCONUS… you’re not gonna get much difference in service beyond legroom…

I don't have advice on the comfort class, but will mention on your flight they will go around and try to get people to sign up for their Atmos Rewards card. If you do it on the flight, you get a better mileage bonus than if you sign up online. If you are going to be buying Aulani points, this might be a good card to get. It's Alaska Air/Hawaiian Air rewards.

Thats good to know, i saw them advertising the atmos online and didnt try to sign up for it yet.

Im a little bummed out because southwest which is what we usually fly on, has a sale right now where if we would have bought with the tickets from them we would have gotten a free companion flight for september. The flight to Hawaii was also slightly cheaper. That would have been a fantastic deal.

As lame as it sounds tho I did want to fly on Hawaiian and get that experience for our first time. Too late to cancel for a refund and we still got an amazing deal. The one way flight jumped over $100 each from yesterday which is how I justified the comfort plus with no issue. Its a direct flight and I dont think ill regret it!

We flew Hawaiian in June from Boston to Oahu nonstop. We flew comfort + there and Delta One on the way back with a stop at JFK. Comfort + was worth it for me. There is more leg room, but the best part was that we could get seats with only 2, so no stranger next to us for 11 hours. I wish we had taken comfort+ on the way back too instead of spending all that money thinking we would be able to sleep on the lay flat seats, nope too uncomfortable, but the Delta One Lounge at JFK was very nice.

Our flight was from Boston, so I guess it would depend on how long your flight is too.

If you plan on opening the card, take advantage of their offer on the plan. They present it just before you land. We have the Hawaiian card and, for us, free luggage more than pays for the card.

On our last trip, we flew Alaska to Hawaii (point value for free trip was lower) and had the normal, indifferent, Alaska customer service. Our return flight was on Hawaiian and felt that service was the same or similar service to what we've experienced in the past. The big difference since the merge is that they adjust the flight times and types of planes quite a bit. It wasn't a big deal for us, but might be for someone else.

I wonder when Hawaiian airlines stops selling seats as Hawaiian airlines? I thought the acquisition integration by Alaskan airlines would be completed sometime in 2026. We are going to Aulani next month, but I am a Delta person so not much to add here, but looking forward to others with insight on this airline!

My husband and I also flew direct from Boston to Honolulu roundtrip via Hawaiian in 2023. I didn't end up springing for the comfort plus because we are used to flying southwest and I didn't think it would be much of a difference since the 737s don't have much legroom either. I was very much wrong! DH is a bigger guy and he was very claustrophobic during the flight. Not sure if it was because the seats are taller and wider on the airbus, but with everyone laying their seats back, it did feel like we were sardined in for the entire 10h duration. Thankfully the airbus has two isles so you can walk without potentially being in the way.

If you or any people in your party are bigger than average or has issues with confined spaces, I'd say it's worth the extra cash.

Thanks everyone, this did help tremendously. We went ahead and booked comfort plus both ways. I always book at least premium economy when flying internationally and I am ok with that. I remember one time booking economy flying to London and I daydreamed about jumping out of the window 🤣🤣 I dont think the cost of $95 extra one way is too much to ask for my sanity 🤣

I am curious about Alaska because it was slightly cheaper than flying Hawaiian. So the flying either is pretty much the same?

We fly Alaska most of the time, our last trip to Maui in December we changed to the comfort plus (no premium class) and loved it. On the Airbus A330-200 they have the 2-4-2 seating so my wife and I could sit next to each other and not having to crawl over anyone or move for anyone. The extra leg room was nice too, the other plus by sitting near the front is getting off the plane quicker. With our dropping the money on 1st class this was hands down the best flight experience we've had.

All that said as a regular flyer with Alaska we earn enough mileage to pay for 1 passenger and we both carry the Alaska Card/ATMOS Visa so we get companion fares. So we "splurge" for the comfort plus.

Our last flight was combo to Delta and Alaska to Calgary, made us really miss the Hawaiian Air seating and extras.

In my opinion, Alaska customer service is inferior to Hawaiian. After the merger, we flew on Alaska to Hawaii. No food, no complementary rum punch, flight attendants that were just doing their job. We flew home on Hawaiian, were given a sandwich, chocolate covered mac nut, rum punch, and the flight attendants had the aloha spirit.

Thank you Im going to book Hawaiian both ways, I see it as part of the experience, a nice welcome before we get there 😊
