I have tried to talk with solo travelers but no luck. Anyone going down the first week of Oct. I will be in world Oct 4th --- Oct 11th and will attend the MNSSHP on the 6th. Anyone interested in meeting or something. diane

Hello dear, you are new and its hard for an established group to break away from routine and meet up at a different time and date. I go 5 times a year and there is always an available DISer to meet up with because I have established their whereabouts before I run from home. . .Sometimes it takes months to establish the connections.

There are some groups that do have set trip dates... Im in one that has been doing around the weekend of Oct. 26th and the weekend after Mother's Day for almost 3 years. There usually is a Dec. trip too, during Mousefest, but that isn't happening this year and I had already decided to do a mini group trip to DL. The groups that some of us are in met on the boards here but also use to chat. This let us get to know each other a little bit. There was a bit of a split in the group but it's all still good.

I would meet up with you but I am there the weekend before and then the traditional trip (and another trip in there). I live 90 minutes away so I do try to get some day trips here and there, or go after work for a couple hours.

Watch the threads, there are always things happening and people looking to meet up. Or else, if you can ever make it to one where a group has decided to go at a specific time and you can get the time to join them, jump in. They are all good people.

I just cancelled my trip in sept and will be looking to go in Oct. I use my dvc membership to stay and it sometimes depends on availability what days I go and of course good ole spirit airlines and their cheap fares

Just so you all know. . .this is how I met the peeps I hook up with now.

They were meeting in May of 2008. It was a long weekend trip and because I am a nurse I was able to reschedule my weekend to be that particular long weekend. I pushed myself forward, started chatting with folks and then booked my trip the same weekend as theirs. I believe there were 22 of us for that particular May meet. Many of them had never met before but after chatting with them for a couple months they felt like friends. I pushed myself forward to their trip and did not try to hook up during a trip I had scheduled for me. It worked like a charm. Since they had been planning their trip far enough in advance I was able to make it work for me. Was I nervous? Yes but I was not sharing my hotel room and if they made me nervous in any way it would have just been a great solo trip.

HOWEVER, they made me feel welcome and I met some really great friends that trip. Then I went with my son in August of 2008 and met up with one of the friends I made on that trip. Then I booked a September 2008 trip and invited another solo disser to join up - I had chatted with the person but had never met but offered my spare bed at POFQ to them. Then a couple other dissers decided to join in and we had a ready made meet. There were only 4 of us that trip but we had the best time. Hooked up with this friend again in December, then went with another Disser in March of 2009. This past May 2009 there was an even larger group of us who met. It was awesome. Had lots of fun and enjoyed all the meets I joined in with. Even met some newbies who are now fast friends. In October this bigger group has two smaller groups going at separate times due to scheduling issues. Most likely we will all meet up in May 2010 again cause this seems to have become an annual trip now.

Once you start the ball rolling with meeting a few of the groups who go often, you become addicted and start finding groups to go with just because you can. That is why I have gone so many times. I don't own DVC but I do have an annual pass. If you go more than once a year the AP is the cheaper way to go.

Read the threads that tell you when groups are going and see if you can wrap yourself around any of their trips and then just go. You will be surprised at how much fun you have when you meet up with others. Since I was the newbie in the beginning I scheduled myself during their time and not a separate trip. If it doesn't work for you this trip, find one that does for the future. Many of these trips are talked about or scheduled way in advance. I can definitely say that I have felt welcome with any group of DISsers that I have met. They have made my solo trips much more fun.

Keep trying and keep looking at the advance dates to see if you can hook up. Its so worth it in the long run.
