Every time I think I will get the finances right it goes crazy. We were doing really well and now time to renew vehicle registration and realize I accidentally didn't pay car insurance and now we don't have any. I have to call first thing tomorrow morning and get coverage. I feel like a heel.

It's stupid and I feel lazy and dumb. How do I let these things happen. He is not going to be happy.

Accidents, mistakes and oversights happen. They happen to everyone. Call the insurance company and reistate it. Ya, it's a big deal you didn't have insurance but forgetting to pay something is not the end of the world.

And if he's unhappy with how you manage the finances he should feel free to take over.

Whenever my husband complains, I hand him the checkbook. He's welcome to the bills if he thinks he can do it better.

How long as the car insurance lapsed? Maybe you can just pay the money and be back on?

Isn't there a grace period or something? Are you sure you don't have insurance? We pay ours monthly but every six months we have make a double payment so its like we're a month ahead.

In MA...if you lapse your insurance...you have to pay a hefty fine...are you sure it has totally lapsed? Also, did you receive NOTICE that the premium was due and then OVERDUE? Maybe, you still have a GRACE period where you can call them tomorrow and send a check overnight mail!!! Do you have an AGENT that handles all this for you? We have an agent for all our insurance policies (we own our own business and pay a ton of insurance yearly) and YES at times we are crazy busy and my agent will give me a friendly reminder call and tell me that the Ins carrier has missed a payment....UGH....I will get right on that before having to pay a late fee or fine to start the policy all over again!!!

Good Luck!!!

BTW OP: We are all human and we are all so incredibly busy...don't fret, you will get this straightened out!! :wave2:

put every bill you can on autodeduct. and no need to even tell your husband, call first thing in the morning and you will be insured right away.

This is why I love autopay don't have to worry about paying the bills they are all paid for me.

I'm sure your husband will understand!

To all that responded about "auto-pay" and "auto-deduct"....like I mentioned before, owning our own business we pay a TON of insurance....and I will tell you St. Paul's Travelers I can pay online BUT Safety Insurance and First Funding Insurance are NOT set up for online payments!!!!!

That was just a FEW I named. So that option is not always the way one can go. I LOVE being able to pay bills online BUT not every company or store is set-up for that feature.

We pay our car insurance every 6 months, and we have a 1 month grace period. So, even if we pay a week or two late (not likely, since dh pays the bills), we're still covered.

even if your insurance isn't set up to take autopay, most banks offer on-line checking and you can pay that way. I even had DDs dance lessons paid through our on-line checking.
