I just got a call from the insurance company.

I was approved for my abdominoplasty. All of the excess skin around my tummy is going to be removed. They're still determining whether or not they'll pay for the chest area to be taken care of as well, so hopefully I'll hear back about that in a couple of days.

I'm so excited I'm shaking.

You all have been a huge help and inspiration, and I thank all of you. I wouldn't be at this point without you all.

THANK you!!!!!

This is great news!!!! I am very happy for you. Are you having it done before the wedding???

That is so wonderful! Congratulations on having such a great insurance company. :p I'm almost certainly going to have the same excess skin issues when my weight loss journey is completed - hopefully my ins. company will come through!

I'm very excited for you. I hope the surgery goes perfectly! :sunny:

Wonderful news!!! When I'm done I'm hoping to be approved, too. All the best to you and good luck with getting everything else approved, too!

Wow!!!

This is terrific news, Dan. I know you've been wanting to make this happen for a long time.

But- ouch! It'll be interesting to see how your recovery goes.

Let us know when you have a tentative date set, so we can go through the nerves and bruises along with you. :D

oh Dan, I'm so happy to hear this for you! What a symbolic way to say "goodbye and good riddance"! to your old unhealthy former way of life :) PD to you during the road of this procedure

Thank you everybody!!!!

I'm already getting nervous. Despite all of my worries about the pain, possible complications and all the "normal" worries that accompany surgery - I may have to postpone my honeymoon! :( I don't know if I'll be able to get the time off for both 10 nights at Disney World, as well as surgery.

Here's hoping. If I DO have to postpone my honeymoon, at least I'll be secure enough with my looks to swim without a shirt on. That was one of my main goals when I decided to lose my weight.

Thank you again everybody. I appreciate each and every one of you!!!!!!

That's wonderful news, Dan!! We'll send some PD your way that you will be able to get time off for the procedure/recovery and your honeymoon! I'm so happy for you! :sunny:

WOW - how exciting to now get to this step in your journey!

How much does skin weigh and will you be underweight from this procedure? (Just curious) If insurance co okays the chest area - would they do both areas at once?

WISHing you the best and if you plans have to change - I believe that it will be for the best ;)
Woohooo - so happy for you as you keep on keeping on !!!!

Hi Dan,

I've come out of lurkdom to let you know how excited I am for you! I've had an abdominoplasty, Dr. Shirley Anine did it, out of Sister's Hospital. She is excellent. As far as pain goes, just be prepared for about 6 weeks of annoying pain. :( Here's why...

I had drains in, two of them, for 5 days after the surgery. You must sleep almost sitting up for quite a while afterwards (at least 3 weeks for me) because they stretch you really tight (worth it in the end!). I walked hunched over for at least 3 weeks (again, hurts to stretch the skin too much), but as time progressed, I straightened up. I had to wear a girdle thingie to compress the area so as to lessen the swelling and it also helped with support.

There is another issue I had that took a while to resolve, about 8 weeks to be frank. Basically I took out stock in laxatives :( . Eventually, though, normal function returned (some nerves were not in working order). Finally, I never did regain feeling in my stomach area, from the ribs down, hip to hip. Nope, nada, nothing... in fact, a belly ring wouldn't hurt at all to get! Normal feeling returns in about six months, so I figure after 2 years it isn't coming back! ;) I'm used to it now and wouldn't trade it for the world!

If you have any questions, just let me know... PM me, I check it many times a day. I'm local to you too, if you need anything during your recovery.

Wishing you well,
Karen

Wishing you the best, hoping for an easy recovery. You have worked so hard to get here. I hope it will be not as bad as you are imagining.

Dan, sending PD for your surgery. Also that you are able to get the both time frames off of work. Best of luck to you! :D

That's great news Dan :sunny: Hope all goes well, and that you get time of for both your op. and your honeymoon! :hyper:

WOW! Congrats Dan...I know this is news you've been waiting for.
