I have to hand it to you SAHMs!!!

But since I can see this is a thread where opinions are only appreciated if they don't take a firm stand one way or another... I'll let the issue be and move on to discussing Disney related things here on the DIS...

"That should please you."

I guess what you call not taking a firm stand one way or another is what I call being open-minded. This is a quality that is likely appreciated wherever you post.

And for this record, the OP never asked for you to make a firm stand on being a SAHM, she was asking for encouragement and ideas to help get through the days. I think some of us (me included) are guilty of getting off topic here and that starting another thread would have been a better way to explore the issue.

I am sorry that you feel attacked because you probably are a very good mom and trying your best much like the rest of us.

So in the spirit of the original post idea, I wanted to offer encouragement to the OP. Some days are better than others and we all feel like pulling out our hair sometimes. With this heat, we are stir crazy so and I find a change of scenery helps all of us. With the heat, parks are out so we LOVE hanging out at McDonalds playcenters. The kids meet other kids and I can talk to other parents or even read a book. We also ALWAYS get fries for our happy meal instead of the apples and HI-C instead of milk so all McDonald haters feel free to flame me but at least start a new thread about it to give the very nice OP a break.;)

Have a great day everyone! My oldest dd started 1st grade today and it will be her first full day of school. It was bittersweet but she is so ready and I am looking forward to having more time for younger dd (20 mos). Of course I say that as I am ignoring her typing on these boards while she watches Jojo's circus but nobody's perfect, right? ;)

I have been a sahm for 5 years. I have just one son and until the last couple of weeks I have loved loved loved being a sahm. He is driving me insane. My husband is gone away on business for 2 weeks(very normal part of our lives) and my son has begun the questions stage. I think he asked me 5,000 questions today. I cant take it anymore. Its like hes on top of me every single second of the day. I have been sad and depressed about him starting kindergarten this fall but with each day closer to the beginning of school I get happier!!
Thanks for posting this thread, I feel better now!
Think of it as his little way of preparing you for your separation anxiety once kindergarten starts. :rotfl:

Last year I quit my nice paying job (which I was no longer enjoying) to stay home with my boys once the older one started kindergarten. My first official day as a SAHM was DS's 5th birthday, so he tells everyone I quit for his birthday. :goodvibes

A few weeks later the first day of school came. We put this gigantic Spiderman backpack on him - from behind it looked like a backpack with two little legs and a tuft of hair at the top. He was excited to go to a new school, and was fascinated to see all the big kids running around before the bell rang. I was getting weepy and trying not to. DH had gone to school with us and was going to work late - Thank goodness; he could talk while I choked up.

DH did the same routine that he and DS used to do at daycare drop-off, and then off the little one went, seemingly swallowed up by that big classroom door. My baby was in school!

Now my big boy is about to begin first grade, and is an old pro at the school thing. He reads by himself, is doing simple math, and is very confident.

Texasthree, this is an amazing year for your DS, I am still stunned by how much my son has learned and grown! Enjoy this time, take pictures, and hang onto the memories. And this will give you a chance to enjoy the younger one(s) as well; I've really enjoyed that, and I think so has DS2, having Mama all to himself.

I started a business for the express reason of escaping the madness of being a SAHM! I'll probably become a flippin' billionaire, I'm so motivated to get out! :moped:

Some women are really special and have this gift for handling children and the household in just the perfect way. Let me be the first to say, I am not one of those goddesses. My 3 kids run the house and me and they are running me ragged.

BTW, I have been a SAHM for 8 years. My twins are 8, my youngest is 2.

I am a children's party planner! :rotfl2:

It really is exciting because it has been a challenge, creating the packages, the website, talking to my local park districts, finding products to retail on my site and a billion other things that make up this particular kind of business. It has been endless.
I really started the business because I needed an outlet for my creativity and entrepenurial side. Plus after so many years of being a SAHM, I needed another dimension to my life. I felt so underutilized in so many aspects of myself and so over-used in other aspects. I would highly recommend to any SAHM to dig deep to remember who you are and what makes you feel fulfilled as a person and to create an outlet or a way of engaging that part of yourself. Just my two cents!

Thats a great idea. I know alot of working moms hardly have time to plan a party. If you were in my area, I'd probably use your services, since I dread children's parties :rotfl: :rotfl: .

I agree with the the dig deep statement. I was a Creative Memories consultant for a while. Getting out a couple of evenings a week really helped the kids bond with DH.
DH and I have noticed that the parenting gets more balanced when the dad has to be THE caregiver for some of the time. The kids rely on him for more things and the calling Mom or Dad is 50/50. Plus the kids get that quality bonding with Daddy.
Even though I am not a consultant anymore, I still get out for Monday night meetings for curriculm development at our church. It does not pay me money, but is so enriching!
The kids LOVE it when Daddy is in charge. What I don't know can't hurt me :rotfl:. When I come home the kids are in bed asleep and DH and I have our time together. That's if I'm home at a decent hour and he is still awake.

Besides all that, that Monday night time helps me put things in prospective, and I am at content with staying at home. I quit worrying about if we have everything the Jones's have, and what they think of us and our opinions and lifestyles.
Most importantly, my time with the kids improve, and I don't go crazy
