Hi,

My mum and myself (16) want go to wdw at the end of august (20th - 31st) and i have a few questions:

Whats the weather like, are there any storms or hurricanes likely to occur at the time?

Is it alright in pools and the water parks for a girl to wear boardshorts as well as a swimming costume? (I don't like to show my legs)

Has anyone booked with expedia that could give me some feedback?

Has anyone flown with American Airlines and what was it like?

and, Am I really going to miss that much since Haunted Mansion will be closed? (I am a frequent visitor to the Phantom Manor)

Thanks in advance:thumbsup2

It's very hot and humid, which causes frequent afternoon thunderstorms. But these usually only last an hour or two.
There is a possibility of hurricanes, but these rarely come inland and the only effects you would feel in Orlando are stronger winds and rain.

As long as they don't have any external metal fastenings or attachments they will be fine.

Has anyone booked with expedia that could give me some feedback?

Sorry, haven't had any experience of booking with them, but I haven't heard anything bad about them.

Has anyone flown with American Airlines and what was it like?

I haven't flown with AA before.

I'm sure you will have a great time :)

Hi!
The weather will be hot and humid in July - but the good thing is the US kids have all gone back to school when you and your mum want to go, so the parks will be less crowded! There is a possiblity of a hurricane and storms, but usually the most you will get is heavy showers and thunder - usually in the late afternoon. The storms never last longer than an hour or so.
You'll be fine wearing shorts over your swimsuit, don't worry about that!
We have used Expedia in the past with no problems, but I'd shop around, you will probably be able to get flights/accomodation/ car hire cheaper separatley.
Yes we have flown with AA before, but its a few years ago now- they were ok. More recently flown with Continental - they were good. My mum has also recently flown with Delta and US airways who were ok too!
where are you staying? Is this your first trip to WDW.. if so, you'll love it!!!
Good luck with your planning.

Yes there are likely to be some storms. This may mean that Blizzard Beach /Typhoon get shut from time to time. We went in Aug 2006 (same week you are going) and found that the wet didn't really spoil things. Somedays when the forecast was bad the parks were really empty all day, yet the bad weather was only late afternoon.

Has anyone booked with expedia that could give me some feedback?

Dh and I have booked and travelled in Europe with Expedia without any trouble at all.

Has anyone flown with American Airlines and what was it like?

Is this the same as US airlines? We flew with them and found them helpful, comfortable and good competition for Virgin in the future!

and, Am I really going to miss that much since Haunted Mansion will be closed? (I am a frequent visitor to the Phantom Manor)

Well it's not one of WDW best rides...

Thanks in advance:thumbsup2

You are very welcome - hope this helped! Please ask more if you think of it

wow, thanks for all the help, it is very very helpful!!!

I only asked about expedia since the travel brochures seem only to do 7 or 14 nights and are a bit pricey for us and we want 11 nights so expedia is nice and and is cheaper than the brochures

Thanks again:love:

Hi astrodrummergirl,

We have been to WDW August before and going again this year in August. Expect weather to be hot and humid with showers mid afternoon and the possibility of thunderstorms and hurricanes but lets hope not!

We have DVC so do not need to book hotels but frquently use Expedia for flights and have never had a problem....have infact had some great deals in the past, £200 with Virgin direct into Miami on one memorable ocassion (in february tho).

We have travelled American Airlines and are using them again this summer. We found the service to be great, hostesses very friendly and for airline food it was very good.

Hope you have a fantastic time

Karen

As others have said the weather is very hot and humid, mid 90s can be expected.
If visiting the parks try and go there at cooler times of the day, first thing in the morning and later in the evening too.

We visited during the last two weeks of August in 2000 and we had a bit more than the oft quoted mid-afternoon showers. The storms more-or-less set in at tea-time and didn't let up for the evening. We will be there for the same period this August, though, so I'm hoping that was a one-off.

We've flown with American Airlines and they do have a very good seat pitch/width. they also had the best airline food we have ever had.(not that the others were difficult to beat)

Also try Funway holidays and travelsupermarket for holidays that don't fit the 7 - 14 day pattern.

We haven't been in August yet, so I can't help you with that.

We have flown several times with AA and they are our favourite airline. We have never had a problem with them unlike Delta and US Airways! They have great seat width. The cabin crew go out of their way to help you. The food is always really good. I would recommend them to anyone!

We have also booked flights and accomodation with Expedia both US and UK sites and again we have never had a problem with them.

Piece of info I'd have liked before we went in August... Think about what you will wear on your feet if it's wet... and also we found that we got really cold in restaurants, because we got rather damp (even with the good old Disney Ponchos) and then the airconditioning was still on full blast in the buildings. Carrying a jumper or pair of socks (if you're going without during the day) to pop on when inside can really help. I remember one or two meals that were spoilt cause we were so cold!

It's not really cold outside even when it's raining - we wore shorts, vests and ponchos most of the time..., it's just the temp inside that catches you out!

Don't be too put off by the brochures quoting 7 or 14 nights - I have been for 15 and 16 nights through Virgin with no hassle at all. I am sure they would have no worries organising a 10 or 11 night trip.

Just type your dates into the Virgin Holidays website, or call them and tell them. I have always found them to be very helpful and friendly!

Good luck!

Miranda

man, that is bad. I'm not sure now but expedia means paying £500 rather than £700 pounds or more per person:confused: also that, now that my sister wants to come, we are both youths on expedia

I went with Expedia last year to Florida and had no problems and have booked again this year with them.

I flew AA to New York and thought it was very good. I fly with Virgin to Florida though as it is direct and you can use DTD check in and online check in etc.
