I have some Artist Point questions...

First of all, with the wine flight, is it a pre-selected course of wines, or do you choose yourself? Are the glasses small?? DH and I are not big wine drinkers but I think I'd like to order the wine flight just to see... :scratchin

Secondly, can anyone tell me about the "Caramelized Peach Cake" dessert? I was pretty much decided upon the "Artist Point Cobbler" until I saw that on the menu! LOL Any recommendations or pictures of the peach cake? (I've seen a lot of pics of the cobbler, it looks great!) :)

Thirdly: Any comments or opinions on what I plan on ordering a week from tonight for our anniversary dinner:

Starter: Baby Iceberg Wedge, with crisp bacon, radish, hard-cooked eggs, and creamy cucumber dressing

Entree: Berkshire Pork Chop on Tillamook Cheddar Mac & Cheese with Maytag Crust

Dessert: Artist Point Cobbler or Caramelized Peach Cake

Thanks! :sunny:

Hi Seaspray,

We like Artist Point! I can't tell you about the wine flight, sorry. But I'm big on desert. I've had more than one cobbler at Artist Point!:) It is o.k., but to me the caramelized peach cake sounds more interesting.

I've done the wedge salad. It is fine. I prefer salads with nuts and dried fruit these days.

Tillamook is great cheddar (my brother used to live in Oregon so I've had my share of cheese, too:) ).

That pork chop sounds like a new preparation. My wife and I have had pork at Artist Point but I don't recall it being seved with mac & cheese (like the filet at Jiko, which I thought was overrated).

We've enjoyed our meals at AP. Have a wonderful anniversary! If you get a late check-out at the Polynesian on the 31st, maybe we'll see you as we check-in! Look for the family with the orange wrist bands and a teenage son pre-occupied with his Nintendo DS.

The wine flight at AP is a 3-4 oz pour. On the menu there is a chief recommended wine with each course that they will bring out and explain its qualities and why it will pair well with the food. I have had only one server at AP who was not very knowledgeable about the wine. She was new and we tried to help her out. I think that you will enjoy the wine flight it is a fun way to learn about food and wine pairing.

I've had the pork chop which was good. The mac and cheese was good too although very different from the version at Jiko. The pork chop has been on the menu for around two years as I recall.

I agree that the servings of wine are around 3 or 4 oz.

The cobbler is a shadow in every way of its former self. Maybe the chef doesn't like keeping it on the menu. I think I'd try the peach cake since that is more likely his/her own creation.

We ate at Artist Point a year and a half ago. After DW and DS12 ordered the cobbler on my recommendation, I chickened out and ordered something chocolate. The cobbler was (at least visually) disappointing -- just a collection of berries and not a whole lot else, not what I think of as a "cobbler". I don't remember ice cream being part of it but it may have been.

Overall the dinner was very enjoyable. But even looking at the current menu I think I'd pass on dessert. For me, $8 desserts had better be truly outstanding, otherwise I'll just hit Boardwalk Bakery and score some serious chocolate for a lot less $.

Wine Flights:

1) Each glass is 2-1/2 ounces.
2) There are three flights available
. . . Washington wines ($9.50)
. . . Oregon wines ($9.50)
. . . Cellar Flight wines ($14) recommended by the staff.
3) Wine flights are often found at
. . . Victoria & Albert's at GF
. . . Artist Point at WL
. . . Martha Vineyard's Lounge at BC

NOTE: Portion control is big at Disney for budgetary reasons and profit. A 2-1/2 ounce glass is exactly 10-shots from a 750-ml bottle of wine.

The pork chops is good and has a small amount reduced balsamic vin. ontop...yummy. The Mac and Cheese is more then mac and cheese so to say. Dont think yellow covered half moon noddles. Its a pasta with a light blue cheese souce with a breaded crisp top.

I get it every time I go!

When we had the 3- course wine flight (maybe about a year ago) it seemed to be normal glasses of wine. Our server picked our wines and actually paired Ice Wine with our desserts, which I know was worth the cost of the wine flight alone.

We shared mussels as an appetizer. DH likes the chop ( I ALWAYS have Salmon), last time he had the scallops though. The cobbler is okay but we really liked the torte (we still mourn the flourless chocolate cake).

OMG, seaspray, we're eating at AP on Saturday too! I can't recall the time, but it's probably quite early. At WDW, we like to eat early so we can go back to the parks or do whatever afterwards. Also, dd needs to eat pretty early. ;)

Anyway, last March was our first time eating at AP and we were pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately we didn't have any of the items on your list. We did enjoy the bottle of wine we had though! Actually, I think I had the cobbler for dessert, but don't remember much about it. That may be a sign, or may just be the wine. :rotfl2:

One thing I can recommend though is the vegetarian entree: "Potato Chive Pot Stickers with edamame, spinach and soy vinaigrette $21" It was absolutely to die for, and I will be having it again. Yum, I am so looking forward to that meal!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! :sunny:

Poly Pal: I've looked at a lot of pictures of the food at AP and the pork chop looks really good! I'm looking forward to the mac and cheese too, since I haven't had much of either in the last 2 months (We're doing the South Beach diet). We're actually checking out on Monday night, so we'll miss you by a day at the Polynesian :(

beaker: That's exactly what I was thinking; that the wine pairing would be a fun way to try some wines that we may not be familiar with, and that someone else has decided would go well with our meals. Leaves the guess work out of it. lol

BCV23: I think I'm definitely going to get the peach cake! I love peach cake and I generally prefer peaches over berries any day. :) I'll come back and give a report on how it was, and of course include pictures. lol :3dglasses

erik: Thanks for your comments and experience. The cobbler looks good, but I see what you mean, there are many other desserts that I'd rather use those calories on! LOL

RustyScupper: Thanks for that info! We've never done a wine pairing before, so we weren't sure what to expect. :)

Callas: Thanks for the detailed description, it sounds really good! And I LOVE balsamic vinegar. The pork chop seems to get very good reviews here on the boards. :)

Miss Jasmine: DH and I LOVE ice wine! Do you happen to remember which brand it was? We love Inniskillin, but we've had other brands too. It's the perfect dessert wine. :)

chamonix: What a coincidence!! :goodvibes Our ADR is for 7:20pm. Let me know if you might still be there at that time. If the restaurant isn't too large (this will be our first time there) maybe we'll see you! :) The pot stickers sound good, we'll have to check them out! :3dglasses

The pork chop and the mac and cheese were both excellent two years ago, I thought the mac and cheese at AP was much better than the mac and cheese with the filet at Jiko.

Our ADR is for 5:45, we'll probably be having dessert about the time you are being seated. If we haven't seen each other in Hawaii before then, I will definitely watch for you at AP. :goodvibes

Have you planned any surprises for your dh for your anniversary? I have a big surprise planned for dh for ours on Wednesday Aug 1st (which isn't actually our exact anniversary, so he's going to be really surprised, lol!!)

I hope we see each other at the resort (Hawaii, concierge lounge, etc!), but if not, then I hope we run into each other at AP! :)

I don't have any surprises planned for DH. LOL What do you have planned for your DH?? When we went to WDW in July 2005 for our anniversary, I surprised him with this, during dinner at 'Ohana. I had the Grand Floridian bakery make it up:

It was SO OUT OF THIS WORLD good! I'd love to order another one but he and I have been on South Beach diet for the last 7 1/2 weeks and we're doing so well (he's lost 20 pounds, I've lost 16) that I don't want to really add to all of the temptations we'll already have! lol We have decided to have our favorite desserts and try some new ones though! LOL (Kiluea torte at Kona Cafe, and a dessert with dinner at AP!).

I'm still trying to figure out something to surprise him with! Any ideas?? LOL

hddanis: Thanks so much for letting me know that your DH loved the peach cake! I am definitely going to order that! :) Do you happen to remember what it looked like and consisted of?? :)

Congratulations on the weight loss! I know hard it is, I have lost 75 pounds (so far) in the past year and a half.

I am getting a cake though, lol. I'm still deciding on filling, and we're getting the same mickey and minnie topper. I'm also getting chocolate dipped strawberries and a bottle of champagne, a card, etc. It should all be set up in the room while we are at an early dinner with dd, then we're going straight to the Neverland Club to drop her off for an hour or two. The plan is to lure him back to the room to surprise him. Two straight hours of alone adult time at WDW is really the biggest surprise, we've never done that before! She may stay longer, who knows? ;)

I'm planning to lay in a hammock on the beach with dh and watch the fireworks. :cloud9: Maybe Wishes will appear in the sky too. :upsidedow
