Went to WDW for Easter for a last minute trip. All DVC rooms were booked but we did get a room at the Poly. The room was very nice and spacious for a hotel room and had the extra bed/couch.

When we checked in my DD asked where the other rooms were. And then my son asked where we were going to keep all our snack since there wasn't a kitchen, and where is the DVD player and the big bath tub?

My wife and I look at each other and laughed. They have never experience the one room hotel room shared by the whole family like we had when we were kids. DVC has really spoiled us. :)

Give them a couple of years and they will be questioning whether or not the bath tile is imported or the "unacceptability" of the linen thread count. ;)

My son had the same reaction when we Gasp stayed at the All Star Sports last year. We were in the baseball section and he kept insisting that the football section had jacuzzi tubs and refrigerators. LOL. I have created resort snobs

This is a very funny thread we get kind of the opposite reaction when we stay at the DVC resots the kids ask why we don't have the big hockey nets and guitar shaped pools. They also ask where the large sports movies or music icons are that are all over the place at the All Star Resorts. They still love going back to the All Stars it is their and our favourite place to stay.

I had to laugh - we just booked a 1 bedroom for our upcoming trip at OKW. We have been lucky and have only stayed in 2 bedrooms in the past, but my mom was with us. We don't need a 2 BR and I consider us very lucky to be able to go at all no matter how many bedrooms. Well, my 11 year old told me in no uncertain terms that if it wasn't a 2 bedroom she wasn't going because she wants her own room. My husband and I just shrugged our shoulders and said "Oh, well, I guess you are staying home................and I don't mean Disney!"

I doubt I could ever get her in a studio.

We did a last minute trip the week before Easter, and there weren't any DVC rooms available then either. Ended up staying at the Swan, and I think I'm the one that is spoiled. I had to pack twice as much because I didn't have a washing machine, and I had to watch cartoons because there was only one t.v. My kids were thrilled because they loved the pool.

You're right, definetly not the kind of places I stayed at when I was kid.

The last time we stayed at a non-DVC resort we stayed at the GF and we got 2 connecting rooms, one for our 7 and 9 year olds and one for us. We are all spoiled.

We've laughed about this at our house for a good many years. When we walked into the BWV 1 bedroom we pretty much stood there with our mouths open. DS (then 16) turned around to me and said, "Well, this does it, Mom, I'm pretty much ruined for hotels". We hadn't even bought in! :rotfl: Must be some kind of record - under 5 minutes, DS was ruined and DH headed for the phone to take the tour!

We are staying at the Portifino Bay Hotel at US/IOA on an upcoming trip for a few days and I am concerned because we are sooo used to at least a 1 bdrm - Its a beautiful hotel according to all reports - but when you are used to an apartment w/washer,dryer and a full kitchen and seperate bedroom - its going to be tough.

Christmas we spent 16 nights between VWL and SSR studios. This was our DS's first time staying in a studio as we had stayed in a 2b at BCV last June.
My 5 year old asked "Where is our room?"

This week they were very excited about receiving their Disney postcard from wdwstar and we were talking about how many days we are staying and my 8 year old didnt want to go, because we are staying in a studio again!! I told him it was the studio (we are cruising in Sept) or stay home so he reluctantly said studio.

They are far from brats and usually enjoy the simple things like Hamburger Helper, but DVC has them rotten when it comes to accomodations! Im willing to do the studios now while they are younger and move up in size when they are big smelly boys! LOL

We always drive to WDW from Kentucky and stay somewhere in a regular room on the way down - so my kids are used to "all the family in one room", but this year instead of DVC ( no points left :sad2: ) we're staying at POR and I'm thinking they'll go into shock after the first night. One night isn't too bad, but a whole week may drive us all bonkers!

This past January was a DVC preview trip for us. We went down with the mindset to buy at SSR, but had never set foot in a DVC resort before. When we checked in to our 1-BR at OKW my DW and I were floored, but my 5 year old DS didn't seem to really notice. Well, when we checked into POP later that week the first words out of DS's mouth were "Hey, where is the living room?"

I have ruined mine, too. Wait til they get older, my youngest is 18 - they use your points to bring their friends down instead of staying at All Stars!!! Now I've started spoiling their friends, too!!!

We've ruined our kids too. :teeth: It's a good kind of spoiled. :goodvibes

We're lucky to share these things with our kids.

I just talked to my mom yesterday about maybe booking POR for just overnight (points poor at this point :rolleyes2 ) as my little cousin will be competing in gymnastics at the Wyndam Palace in DTD in June....we were discussing sleeping arrangements as it would be me,my 2 kids (one is under 3) and my mom and possibly my aunt...when my mom turned around and said "you mean there's no couch?"....the past few yrs if she's gone to WDW it's been staying with us in at least a 1bdrm or larger and now after yesterday I realized I've spoiled my mom! lol :rotfl:

Well, I don't have any children to ruin, so I ruined my husband!

When we married, a Motel 6 was his speed. Slowly, I inched him up the 'hotel chain'. First it was a moderate at WDW. Then it was a splurge at a deluxe. Well, then we "tried" the 1BR at VWL prior to the purchase. We bought into DVC with the intention of staying at studios most of the time. That lasted 1 trip. We bought more points. End of story.......

2 summers ago we decided to splurge on a 5 star hotel (B&B Fearrington Inn) here in NC. Big mistake.................

All kidding aside, we stayed at Dixie Landings this past Dec prior to checking in at VWL and it was great.

But I refuse to stay at a value. Too painful! :wave2:

We took an "extra" trip to OKW last Thanksgiving, with my parents. We were out of points so we rented from another member and had enogh for 2 studios. I was thrilled that our request was met and my parents were in the same building we were. All was well until my daughter walked into the OKW studio and looked around and burst into tears! She got so upset there was no "bubble tub" and no "big porch." I was flabbergasted... what to say? I explained that this was an extra trip and we would have a big room again during spring break... Whoa! Now if we need to rent a studio I will make sure the kids UNDERSTAND its' a studio! :) My Dad still laughs about his little princess with her high standards. :flower:

here's one for the, been there done that, maybe first trip using points, first contract good for sun thru thurs 2 bdrm okw, arrive saturday late afternoon made resevation for shall i call it nation wide hotel/motel chain on 192, the musty cramp feel of that room had me doing that add-on thing

I had a similar experience with my mom. She went with us on Veteran's Day weekend in 2003. We stayed one night at Boardwalk Inn (cash - didn't have points for the Villas) and 3 nights at POR. She's never seen a DVC room.

When we walked into BI, she was amazed, and when we got to the room, her mouth fell open. Even though it was a studio, she was in awe with how large the room was (frankly, I was suprised and pleased too). :earseek:

When we moved to POR the next day, I actually think she felt more comfortable, because it was the room style we had when we were kids. The spoiled children and I kept saying, well, it's small but only for a few days. She kept saying what a nice room it was and actually it was a good size. I think she made a comment about how spoiled we are!!!Of course, she was right! LOL

Can't wait to take her and show her what a real DVC room is like!! :cool1:

Since buying into DVC 2001 whenever DS & I go away we always need a refrigerator and a bathroom! lol
We used to go camping (in a cabin) without a bathroom or fridge - never again - lol
