I have been dreading today...Update..He's gone.

We have to take Hunter, our yellow Lab, to the vet's to be put down.

He is 9 years old and has cancer. Youngest Ds and I will be there. I want us to be the last thing he sees.

We still will have Dudley, our Shih Tzu, but the house will seem so empty without Hunter.

Now I will be able to hang the toilet paper back on the wall (instead of hiding it in the drawer) because Hunter loved nothing better than to grab it (with the holder) and RUN!

Now I will be able to wear black & navy blue without getting white hair all over it.

Now 1/2 the welcoming committee will be missing when I come thru the door.

Just an update to say he's crossed Rainbow Bridge. Before we made the final trip in the car, we gave him one last roll of toilet paper! to all of us who have ever lost a fur covered family member.

I'm sorry. I've been where you are and it hurts....

Nine years old is just too young for a dog to have to go but I had to put down a dog due to bladder cancer and my heart still breaks when I think about her.

I am so sorry your family has to go through this so early in Hunter's life. He'll always hold a special place in your heart. The memories are easier in time and you'll smile more when you think about him than tear up. It's nearly two years since my beloved Kahlua passed and although times like this I tear up more times I remember her with a smile.

I just came back from the vet after putting one of our cats to sleep. We noticed he was sick yesterday and they tried but we didn't want him to suffer any more.

Oh OP ... I SOO feel for you. This is very very tough, I know!!

I just did the same thing barely 2 weeks ago. My beautiful 7 y/o Akita had a cancerous tumor growing and squashing his entire head and face. He was otherwise healthy and active. It just seemed so "wrong" to have to put him down, but his head couldn't take any more pressure.

I'm SO sorry. In time it does get a little better, but it's rough for sure. Hang in there.


PS: I'm able to wear all my clothes now, too, without all the additional fur.
