I have become the gardener/landscaper for our house...

DH usually does everything in the yard. He use to work as a Landscaper in CA and had always maintained a beautiful yard. I have noticed though, as the years go by he is doing less and less I have waited two years to have some sort of landing at the bottom of our stairs to avoid tracking mud, and finally I did it myself with pavers and rocks. This year I am determined to take the initiative and to do it myself. Now I get to do the 'fall clean-up' that was never done. Ewwww...Leaves after sitting for a winter are so gross. Just a little revelation and vent. They say if you want something done - to do it yourself.
Now if I could just figure out how to drive the ride-on mower!

Good job. I agree, if you want something done, then to do it yourself. I have been asking my DH if he could help me with a few things and since he didn't budge, I started to do it and he helped me out later.

Watch out for all those little critters that might be under those leaves .

I spent 3 years waiting for my DH to lay a cobblestone path to my front door. I bought the stone, the bluestone, the sand, the landscape fabric, the tamper, the edging, and the spikes. I dug the ditches, levelled the ground, pounded in the edging, laid down the bluestone, tamped it down, and said, "There, now go lay the stone." After waiting another 2 years, I laid the d**n stones myself, spread the sand, swept it in between the stones,tamped the stones into place, spread more sand, then landscaped the edges. So, I ask you, why do we even keep them around????

Sounds like alot of work for one person to get done.

This is so true. Let me add, today I dug in more pavers, carried the stones from the truck to the backyard, leveled the ground, laid the rock, made lunch for my two-year old (ohh yes, all this while taking care of DS) then did last falls spring clean-up this spring. DH has been out all day riding his motorcycle because its good weather.
I would be mad under other circumstances , but the yard got done and DS and I had a great day together. Being a women sometimes even amazes me-we are such multitaskers!

It is amazing just how fast DH can find another "have to be done now" chore in the garage, or a neighbor's house, or project at work when I ask for a little help in the yard. Occasionally I may get an hour's help here or there if I scowl enough. But I'd rather have him enthusiastically volunteer!

and yes, we have enough pavers purchased to add on to the patio to tie it in to the concrete side yard, and have for several years. I'm still mowing the grass where the pavers should be.

Hear, hear!!! The rototiller just sat in our garage for nearly a month until I figured out how to start it and tilled 1/2 of the veggie garden yesterday. Yes, only half, because I felt like I'd been in a boxing match after bouncing and shaking for 20 minutes! And now the rototiller sits on the edge of my veggie garden, mocking me. Piece of junk! Heehee!

Power tools, I can do. But wood tools scare me. I like all of my fingers!
