at a local hospital. Wish me luck :) I really want to do evenings at the ER desk (one of the positions they listed as possible) but I'll do almost any of the jobs. I want to see whether I like working in a hospital environment because that's where I'm thinking of working once I get my Social Work degree (as a patient advocate)....either there or as an advocate for battered women.

I have thought about going back to school to change careers to social work, but I just can't afford it.

My mom is the youngest volunteer at her hospital (she can't qualify for AARP, just to tell you how young she is). All the old bitties love her and she gets along great with most of the docs. She loves working the ER (gets to work with the patients) and also enjoys working the Cath Lab area. She would probably go to school to get a nurse's degree, but she doesn't "do" blood or poo or vomit, so that counts her out. Good luck!

It went well. Every new volunteer starts in General Services which means basically you start out as a gofur. I had to get a TB test (federal regulations) and that wasn't much fun (and I have to get a second one in two weeks...after that one is checked, I can start actually volunteering) but it wasn't too bad :)
