I was helping a mortgage company collect missing paperwork for a few weeks about 4 years ago-we would have to get copies of insurance binders, various documents, etc. that they needed and up pops "Alton Brown". I had to call him to get him to send a copy of his current homeowner's insurance .

I bet that was a difficult phone call to make. It would have been for me. I would have to tell him how much I enjoy his shows and his methods of cooking and teaching!

It took a while for AB to grow on me... but then all of the sudden it was like...
BOOM! and I was in love with the man! Loved the Feasting on Asphalt series!!! I can not believe that AB was right up the road from us in Alton, IL.

i'm not really a fan of cooking, even though i'm pretty decent at it (if i do say so myself ), but i'm such a logic-based person that everything Alton says is just fascinating.

i also love food tv...anyone from MA? i LOVE the Phantom Gourmet! i wish they'd do more South Shore places though...yeah i know they're North Shore boys but pffftttt, North Shore.

Alton went to culinary school here in Vermont, just a few miles away from where I live. People that I know worked there at the time and THEY say that AB is ego maniacal pain in the you know what. Not first hand knowledge so take it for what it is worth.

I tell my kids all the time if something were to happen to DH, somehow/someway, Alton Brown would be their new Dad. Yes I know he's married, etc, but gotta have some fantasies!

Substitute Alton Brown for Samantha Brown and you will have my fantasy completely understood. She's married also but that is only because we haven't met yet, I'm sure of that. Besides that I'm bald and wear glasses. It's a given.

Not to mention that I just recently injured myself and I walk with a decided limp so I got the sympathy thing going for me.
