OK... I'm fairly new to this posting biz ....but I have been reading some of the posts around here and everyone seems so helpful that i thought i would run my problem past you guys and see if anyone could halp!

Ok so here it is.

Basically i got Engaged around New Year and am now doing some preliminary research on getting married and weddings ..etc. we aren't planning on getting married any time soon but as i am a fairly disorganized person i figure i will need every second between now and then to research.

Anyway, i think it is safe to say that i am a self confessed Disney geek! in fact this year marks the twentieth anniversary since my families first trip to WDW, which of course my parents and i are using as an excuse to go again :hyper: . but that is besides my point. the thing is i would love an intimate Disney wedding. The idea of a big wedding just scares the begeezus out of me! so what i really want is my immediate family and his immediate family going off too Florida for a beautiful wedding and fantastic holiday with everyone we care about.

Now i know everyone has said good things about Disney organizers and escape wedding etc etc etc....however here is my problem... I am a catholic and as such want to get married in the catholic church.

now from reading on hear i know that some Americans have been able to do this by being married in one of the catholic churches in the Orlando area...however i have the added inconvenience of being British.... does this just throw a massive spanner in the works or what...

is my idea of a catholic wedding in florida just a pipe dream... are the logistics just awful...

I know that if i were rich it would be easier as i could go out for required meetings etc...but Alas ...i'm not... so would really want to organise through phone email and of course my own parish priest.

Anyway can anyone help.... Walt Disney says "if you can dream it you can do it" what do you guys think???

please help!!!!

:confused3

. . . I am a catholic and as such want to get married in the catholic church . . . does this just throw a massive spanner in the works or what . . .

1) No problem.
2) Call the church and arrange for a date & time.
3) Then, apply by-mail for a Florida Marriage License at least 60-days in advance.
4) You probably need an Apostille (paperwork filing) through your Embassy
5) It is done all the time and they know what to do.
6) Not complicated or difficult.

PS - Don't worry about throwing a spanner into the works. In The Colonies,
we only worry if we throw a wrench into the works. :)

Not quite the same but my Catholic friend gets married in Ireland next month. She's done it all through her parish priest and he's passed this on to the Irish priest who she's booked the wedding in Ireland with.

Another option is a blessing when you get back.

oh, ok that doesn't sound too bad... certainly sounds doable ..... thank you so much!!! no idea what an Apostille is..but i'm sure i will find out.

hopefully i will keep wrenchs and spanners out of any works!!!

thanks so much
:)

Perhaps one of these options will work for you! :thumbsup2

i will listen to this first thing tomorrow!! thank you so much!!

I do believe this is the way it is generally done...i was just wondering if the would want more visits from me in person... but it probably would be a similar situation to your friend...i don't see why it wouldn't.

Thanks for every ones help and i am so appreciative of whatever help i can get on the subject. I'm not planning on getting married tomorrow...but with my disorganisation the way it is i figured i should start organising ASAP! even if it is just hammering out ideas and understanding the logistics...i would hate to get my heart set on something only to find some major obstacle in my way ... i'm sure it must be possible... as chilly pointed out i'm not the first Catholic who didn't want to get married in her native land.

your right i could have a blessing after or even marry here first and then do wdw for the reception...but I think i'm an all or nothing girl... no that sounds bad...what i mean is either all here or all there. of course the honey moon will be there regardless (but if the wedding is here it may be a year or so till the honey moon)

ok, rambling, sorry!
