I have a rather strange question to ask about the restroom in WDW.....

My youngest daughter is rather small for her age (she will be 5 in October but most people think she is 3 or so). She does not like the toilets that automatically flush when you are done, because they tend to flush while she is still sitting. She does not seem to completely register that she is there all the time. So typicaly I or her older sister have to hold our hands over the sensors to prevent this from happening, and we notice on our last trip to DL that the stalls are very small. So unless we take up the handicap stall (which I avoid unless an emergency), potty breaks can very difficult.

Anyways...my question is has anyone noticed any restroom with manual toilets? In DL we found one near the Dumbo ride and tended to go to that one if we were not too far away. So any heads up would be wonderful.

Thanks
Michelle

I read where someone took a pad of post it notes with them. Stick one over the sensor when you go in and when finished just remove it and it flushes. Never tried it, but makes sense.

What a good idea! I was going to suggest a piece of masking tape, but the post it's make a lot more sense- easy to use and toss in the trash when done.

Welcome to the DIS boards. My DS hates those too and we have used the Post It notes with much success. Just a thought about the HA stalls, you may want to check out this thread on the disABILITIES board--it may make everyone think twice about not using the HA stall unless there is no other option. GL with your DD and hope the Post-It idea works for you! :)

(Not that I think anyone here is like the woman mentioned in the first post  )

Post it notes wortk well and a 5 year old should be able to put them on and take them off by herself once you show her where to put it. That way, yo don't have to worry abouyt taking up the handicapped stall.
People have posted that the handicapped stalls don't have the automatic toilets, but that's not true. They tend to have whatever the rest of the restroom has.

I didn't have those post-it-notes suggestions when I went with my dd 2.5 years ago, wish I had, she was 5 1/2 and did not like those toilets either. I know I found some that didn't but don't remember where.

I think there may be some in the baby care centers that don't have auto flush. My DD was so scared of the autoflush potties on my first trip with her at age 3 that I had to put her back in pull ups. She wouldn't even go in the stalls. I must remember to bring them on this trip!

Thanks for the great idea with the post-its!!! I never would have thought of that. I may do a trial run at the mall before we go in September, so she understands the concept.

Thansk again

We've done this. It works!!

I still have a pad of post it notes in my purse for this eventuality - although my kids seem to have gotten over it.

I had heard of that idea, but never thought ahead enough to have the post-its with me. I never had trouble fitting in the stall with my dd. There are some that are not automatic, but I can't remember where.

I was wondering about this too. My dd is 4 1/2 and she hates those things too. When we went to Disneyland last September I took her to the potty and she wouldn't go, it had been several hours. She had a major tantrum in the bathroom. People kept giving me funny looks but I just smiled and told them she is terrified of those automatic toilets. She wouldn't even sit on them with me putting my hand there. I finally got her to go because I told her we weren't leaving the restroom until she did. She was mad at me for quite a while, lol. The funny thing is that she NEVER throws tantrums so I thought it was pretty amusing watching her fit. I was happy to find a regular toilet near the entrance on our way out :)

If you forget the post its....a bunch of toilet paper wrapped around the sensor works. Isn't pretty, but what we do for our kids!

I never would have thought about post-its, but a paper towel, doubled over the sensor gave my daughter a sense of security with this.

I don't know how many times we have actually had to leave a rest stop on a trip to drive somewhere else where the toilets were regular! I am so glad we are finally over this stage.

If only the people who invented that crazy automatic toilet would have know the trauma it would cause for so many little ones!! :rotfl:

What I'd like is a little pedal or button on the floor I can step on... just so I don't have to touch anything with my hands. Eeww!

My girls always have liked the automatic water and paper towels, though. Those are super cool and save on the germ factor immensely.

LOL! My kids are the same way to move up and then move back so they can see the toilet flush. Maybe I can use the post its to get them out of the bathroom faster.

My son is 9 and this happened to him last weekend when we were camping. He came flying in the camper looking for a clean dry pair of pants because the toilet not only flushed, but set off quite a shower of water.,, He was not amused!

My little ones could always care less about the automatic flushing toilets, but I do know of some other options--the garage sale stickers, might be less likely to get beat up or smaller to carry around? The other thing is to use the family restrooms; there are quite a few of those around. When I take my boys, the insist on going in those over the women's restroom (at only 4) whenever possible. I think the toilets still auto flush, but you'd be there to help.
