I have a question about no-sew fleece blankets

I think I want to make the two-sided no-sew fleece blankets for my co-workers (maybe matching pillows too!). I've looked at a few websites with instructions and understand to cut out the corners, but see various sizes for these corners and length of fringe cuts.

How big are the corners you cut out of the larger piece of fleece? How long are your fringe pieces - and do you use the same size pieces of fleece or different? If different sizes of fleece are used in one blanket, what is the difference in the piece length?

TIA.

I've made several of these, and they are not too difficult. If you are making it for an adult, go with two pieces of fabric that are 2 yards. Put them on top of each other and cut out the corners 5 inches by 5 inches. To make your strips, just cut up to the point of where your corners are cut out. Make the strips as wide as you want them. I go with about an inch. Then you know how to tie them, right? I don't think I could explain that in a message! Good luck and have fun!!!

Sleeping Beauty Fan explained the instructions really well!

The only thing I might also add as a tip my friend showed me, is to get a piece of cardstock & a piece of chalk. Rub the length of the cardstock with chalk & then tap that length onto the fleece at the 5" mark or how ever long your fringe is to be. It serves as a guide to keep the fringe lengths all nice & will be evenly cut to same line.

Then you can just use your rotary cutter & roll away Makes cutting really fast. It also works if you are using sewing shears too.

Just to add a note on the tying - you tie every other fringe then turn the entire blanket over and tie the rest of the fringe - keeps it looking even & not lopsided.

Thanks for the tip.

I just priced fleece at Rag Shop. $5.99 for solid micro fleece (very nice hand) and $8.99-$12.99 for printed fleece that didn't appeal to me. So for one blanket I'd be looking at spending $24 to buy 4 yards. To me it's not worth it unless I can find fleece for less somewhere.

Thanks, Rebecca for the nice words about my instructions! I was hoping they made sense! As for the cost of the blankets, that's about how much I've spent to make them. I've only ever made them for family, so that's a little different than making them for co-workers.

FYI

Walmart has them in a package for $10
it is two pieces of fleece cut to the correct sizes with the instructions on the plastic wrap..
you still have to cut and knot
but that might be the way to go as gifts...
I will probably make a few that way -

also you don't have to be super picky that the cuts are EXACTLY 1" wide - I just eyeballed mine (no measuring at all) and once it is all tied together you can't tell.

No kidding Patty? I plan on going to Walmart this weekend so I'll make a point of checking those out. $10 is more my price for coworker gifts.

I usually get my fleece off the bolt at Wal-Mart. I've found that the solid fleece tends to be wider than the prints - at least for those I've selected. Since I'm really cheap, I usually use the wider one to be the "bottom" piece that you cut the squares out of. (My instructions said 4" squares BTW - which make 4" fringe.) That way I'm not trimming (read: wasting) 4" strips of fabric.

I was making them square, but realized later that they weren't quite large enough to go from feet to chin when you're in a lounge chair. Our house is cold, so both kids want them that long.
