I Have a New Saving Plan for Myself

I've been trying to motivate myself to save more for all of my upcoming trips.

Our WDW trip is 10 nights, so I made a bunch of envelopes, each marked with a meal I'd like to do (ie Cindy's lunch or Boma dinner), with a specified amount. For ones I'm not certain of yet, I just put MK counter service or Epcot dinner (for example). I also made two that said Airport Departure Day and Airport Arrival Day (for a snack at the airport when we travel), and for for Mousekeeping.

When I buy Disney Dollars, or have a few extra dollars in my wallet, or change coins into bills, I add it to the envelopes. When it hits the target amount, I seal the envelope.

I know when push comes to shove, on vaction, I may or may not eat at all my favored choices (it seem like we make about 3/4 of them)

It just seems alot more fun than just saving money. SO far I've sealed 2 envlopes, and a third is started.

I think that's a great way to save!! As I put money aside, I say, OK, I have enough for gas to get there and back, now resort is paid for, now tickets and so on. It feels like I'm accomplishing so much more when I break it down like that.

That's a great idea! It's so hard to set money aside for "vacation" when other things come up, but it seems so much easier when you know that money will enable you to do specific things that you want to do. I'm going to label some envelopes today!

I love the envelope idea. Our closest Disney Store is 3 hours away, so the Disney Dollar thing doesn't really work unless we go for a large amount, but this envelpe thing could really work for me - thanks for the tip.

I need to make some more envelopes. I have one that says Hoop De Doo on it but now we are not going there. I have $115.00 in that envelope.

I think I will make the ones that say MK day, etc and of course Mousekeeping. This way I have our spending money divided up for those days.


We are doing the dining plan so I am not expecting to pay for to many meals but snacks yes.

That's a great idea which I will plan on doing but another way I save for vacation especially when we go to the beach and rent a house is that I buy gift cards for the local grocery store for our grocerys and also I buy gift cards for our gas,that way I know what our main expenses will be.. I also plan on having Disney Dollars around.. I know this way is not for everyone but it works for us...

what did you all name your enevlopes?

I am in canada so I have to conver to US $ too, so I am not sure how much i should put away for what . HELP?
