Add me to the list! I've noticed it it often the younger crowd (teens) that do it.
sry. :rolleyes1

Kidding. I try not use things other than LOL. I'm not much of a text messager though. When I do text, I usually use T9 word and spell out every word.

I totally agree. I just read a post a few minutes ago and I had to read it at least 4 times, because it did not make any sense - it still doesn't, but I gave up. It wasn't even the acronyms, it was wrong words, missing words, no punctuation, misspellings -grammatically everything wrong possible! And this person had like over 1000 posts!

It doesn't bother me at all to see posts with unintentional mispellings. It actually bothers me a lot more to see people criticize people for it. Some people just have a problem spelling.

It does bug me when people do it intentionally though. What is the point of using, for example, "kool" instead of "cool"? Maybe I'm just old, but I don't get it.

You're right of course, and I really try not to let it bother me. I guess that's why it's called a 'pet peeve'!

I'm totally ambivalent about many things written here that drive others crazy; maybe it's because I'm from a long line of English teachers!

:)

Oops, make that ambivalant!

Oh man, I definitely have it bad, don't I?

(and that's DEFINITELY, not definAtely!)

That's my FAVORITE (not favorAte) pet peeve!!

(sooo sorry, someone stop me!!! blame my teacher parents, aunts, uncles, grandpa, ect....!!)

;)

Is this why I see the word "prolly" for probably?? Or do they really think "prolly" is correct. Incorrect grammar, punctuation and spelling is so accepted that I don't know if the perpetrators know better and just being trendy, or don't know at all.

Incidentally, my 4th grader has her writing TAK's test next Tuesday, so inspecting every written word has been the norm around here lately. I can only imagine how difficult the teachers have it trying to teach these children when the trend is to butcher the written word just for the sake of efficiency.

hI aLL,
punctuations, i hate that too.i try to be on time everywhere. :thumbsup2 :teeth:
Reminds me of Marilyn Monroe in the movie 'Monkey Business' with Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers. She plays a secretary with dubious secretarial skills (as her boss says, "Anyone can type!"). When someone comments on her being at work early, she replies, "Mr. Oxley's been complaining about my punctuation, so I'm careful to get here before nine." :teeth:

Personally, I empathise with the misspellers. I had a traumatic experience in 1st grade on one of my first spelling tests; the word was 'of' and I misspelled it... :( both letters... I blame our teacher for saying "Sound it out!" all the time, so I did: uv!

I'm mostly over the trauma now... ;)

I hope this doesn't set you back but.... :rotfl2:

I don't necessarily have an issue with the way people pose their words, but I do have an issue with people who don't know how to make paragraphs.

If the post is one long clump, I can't get through it and the message is totally lost. :badpc:

I agree. When I'm at work using lotus notes, I do you pls instead of please just to shorten it a bit, since I use it a ton when sending requests to people.

Add me to the list as I have the same pet peeves!!

I don't mind seeing things such as LOL & IM(H)O or J/K. I hate having to decipher CUL8R, kewl, thaz, peeps, etc... :confused3

I don't mind unintentional spelling errors or those of us who do (sp?) but when the majority of a post is spelled wrong because of lack of knowledge, I get so frustrated trying to read it that I won't even finish!! :headache:

 Maybe the mods can add a spell check to our "post reply" section??!??

I am also one who will not read a long post that is all in caps with no punctuation. :crowded:

ITA!

ITA, also!

I don't even like it when I get IMs that are written like that. I don't mind LOL or BRB, but anything more than that gets my goat. But I'm a fuddy duddy, so what do I know? :rotfl:

I also agree about paragraphs--when nothing is broken into paragraphs it's too hard to read and I tend to skip over it. Break things up even if it technically should still be one paragraph--it reads easier.

I can't stand prolly!!! Prolly one of my biggest pet peeves! :rotfl2: j/k, it probably is.

For the longest time my 15yo son was always saying (really saying, not typing) j/k LOL when he was joking. It got SO annoying, but now I tend to say that to him just to bug him. Yes, I'm an evil mother, but you probably already know that. :teeth:

What a gorgeous cat....Too cute.

Miss Pooper? :rotfl: I wish I could teach her how to get in and out of the litterbox with out getting it all over her backside! :rotfl2: But thank you, she is a sweetie. This morning she was sitting on a stool (the type a person sits on, not the kind in her litterbox ;) ) and leaning over the back of it, with her front legs crossed, waiting for attention. What a total princess.

Right now her brother is mewing in the laundry room where we keep the cat toys wanting someone to play with him, the spoiled baby. Guess I'd better get busy and do so. :teeth:

A few misspellings or grammatical errors are no big deal--probably just from going to fast/doing something else at the same time. But when an entire post is full of them, not only is it difficult to read, but shows just plain stupidity. I do wish they would add spell check to the boards when replying.

What I absolutely, positively can't stand is when the entire post runs together without punctuation or no break between sentences. Even one thought needs to be broken up after a few sentences just to make it readable. A sentence or two or a few words in caps is fine, but when the entire post is in all caps, I can't read it. If it is the OP, I skip the thread. Otherwise, I just skip that particular post.

Don't mind the "LOL's" and whatnot, but just cannot stand:
- 'Txt'/phonetic spelling :headache:
- The mixing up of words like 'their and 'there', etc. :scared:
- Long posts with one paragraph
- Things like 'I could care less' (it's 'I couldn't care less'), 'grant it' (it's 'granted'), 'I drather' (it's 'I'd rather'), and things like that (where people have heard something and are repeating it in the wrong way). :badpc:

I don't have perfect grammar, and I'm sure I've messed up a few times, but certain things (like the above) just bug me when I see them.

I don't say anything though. That would be rude, IMO.

I wonder if Alta Vistas Babel Fish translator has an option for TXT -> human?

I still struggle with it's vs. its... and effect vs. affect... I don't want to have to deal with 15 variations of cool (which is actually less struggling to type than kool for a touch typist, due to the use of both hands).

I always try to go in and correct my spelling after the post comes about just so I don't irritate others! Plus, I am a clerical-type person in my work and I hate to show that I can't really type! :rotfl2:
