I have a phone interview tomorrow with a school in Nashville! :cool1: I'm excited but also very nervous. The school is part of a charter school system that is by far my first choice. Normally the schools require two years of teaching experience, but Nashville is willing to waive that requirement for me. I sent in my resume a little less than two weeks ago and heard back two days later. I'm really trying not to read too much into it, but I am encouraged by how quick the response was and my communication with them so far.

Nasvhille is not my first choice of location, but I have decided if they offer me the job I will take it. I would be a fool not to in these economic circumstances. I have also heard that they are one of the best schools on this particular system.

Any tips for phone interviews that you would like to share? I did one for the college program ,but at that point it was a formality.

I've conducted phone interviews.

Use your voice. Seriously. It's the only way you can show your interest, your sincerity, and allow the interviewer a glimpse into your personality.

I always listened like a hawk when conducting those types of interviews.

Was there background noise? Did the person seem to be doing something else along with being interviewed. Was the person eating? Drinking? Smoking?

Be aware of vocal turn offs such as repeated phrases (like, ummmm, errrm, prolonged hesitation).

Remember the person can't see you so be sure to "tell the person" what you are doing. "Let me think about that for a moment," instead of just going silent.

Take care now and best of luck to you!

Good luck. I went on my 8th interview today. Be prepared for a lot of questions on technology, educational philosophy, classroom management, team building, and the "difficult student".

For phone interviews, I usually have a copy of my resume, certs and praxis scores RIGHT in front of me.

I'm the interview "queen" after the past few years, so I hope these ideas will help you...

If you know ahead of time who's going to be interviewing you, google them and learn EVERYTHING you can about them, as well about the school, the town, etc. Pay special attention to this charter's school's philosophy, and figure out ways to incorporate "key points" from it into your interview (naturally, of course;)

This is going to sound crazy, but dress as though you were actually being interviewed in person, makeup, hair, heels, etc. Lock yourself into wherever you're going to be interviewed, and make sure there will be NO interruptions, that your phone works perfect, etc.

Lastly, BELIEVE in YOU. Pick out four or five key words/phrases, blow them up large, and post them in a row right across your line of sight wherever you're going to do the interview. Phone interviews are hard, and you really need to stay focused. You can do it! Good luck!

Please update and tell us how it went.:goodvibes

I think it went well. They said I should hear back within a week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
