I have a ? for Swan & Dolphin SPG Experts

We are due to arrive at the Dolphin this week & I called today to see if we can upgrade using our SPG points. I was told that because we have a discounted rate (government employee), upgrades are not permitted. Is this correct? We have about 50,000 points and we were going to use some of them to upgrade this trip. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I can't answer yes or no to your exact question....

I can say that I have personally upgraded with points from an AP rate. I have had the best luck calling the resort directly within 5 days from the start of the stay and asking a front desk clerk. For some reason I don't get good results with SPG when dealing with the S&D.

If that dosen't work then just be friendly and courteous with the front desk clerk when you check in and ask for what you need. If it is available and you have the points then in my experience they will do everything they can to get you a great room.

I love the Dolphin and just last night returned from a fantastic 6 night stay - it was just great!

I would call again and get someone else on the phone. From all the experiences I've had, or friends have had with upgrades it makes no difference if you are there on a reduced rate through gov/nurse/teacher or AP rate v. regular rate. On the other hand, rates received through other sources aren't eligible for spg points or upgrades.

I just returned from the Swan today. I had a discounted government rate for the week between Christmas and New Year's and although I expected a view of a parking lot I was told when I arrrived that I had been upgraded to a lakeview room. We have a Starwood card but had accumulated no points on it.

Thanks for your prompt responses. I think I will just wait until I get there and see if anything is available. If not, I am at Disney and will be having fun no matter what.
I am glad you have great stays at the Swan & Dolphin. We love the Swan & this will be our first stay at the Dolphin.
