does a dvc reservation get the magical express service?

also - i heard that every other year you have to go back to your home site - is this still true?

and how hard is it to change our dvc to a regular resort - when we're going w/the in-laws they like a different resort than what we want for our home resort

and my last question - most of the studios only take four people - and this is what we want to use - but if we bring a friend for one of the kids we would need an extra bed - for these trips can we use our dvc points to go to PORS -

thanks

This is what I know from my experience.

Not True

It is all going to depend on when you are vacationing, during the Christmas Season it may be more difficult to get another resort other than your Home. You can book your Home resort at 11 mos and then at 7 mos try to book for another resort.

thanks

Yes, DVC includes Magical Express. You can make your reservations on the DVC website.

No, you don't ever have to stay at your home resort, if you don't want to.

I'm not sure I understand the question here...are you talking about a cash reservation at another Disney resort...or changing to another DVC resort from your home resort? If you're talking about non-DVC, you will likely need to pay cash. There are a few available on points, but there are pricey, points-wise. You can use your points to stay at any of the available DVC resorts.

You can use your points at PO...the points charts are available on the DVC website. It costs a bit more points than staying at a DVC resort.

thanks

Hope that helps! :)

Anyone who stays at any Disney resort can use Magical Express, it doesn't matter whether you're on a cash reservation or using points. You get the same perks as any other resort guest; access to EMH, charging to the room, DME, etc.

It's not true at all that you have to stay at our home resort every other year. Never was true. You can use your points anywhere that there's availability.

You can use points to stay at POR, but it's a very, very poor value, and there's a $95 fee for exchanging out of the DVC system. You can get a 1-bedroom villa at AKV that sleeps 5 (and has a full kitchen, washer/dryer, balcony and two bathrooms) for just a few more points per night than that little room with double beds at POR.

thank you for your help - this helps a lot -

but to reference the question about pors - i know that the one bedroom is available - but it costs more respectively - and this is where we're making comparisons for buying dvc - also my youngest (age 4) thinks of this as his disney home - so we have to go there at some time or another - that is until he finds out about the better resorts -

thanks again -

A night at POR would be anywhere from approx 17 - 42 points per night. depending upon season, day of week and view. This is why using DVC points at a non-DVC resort is thought to be poor use of points; in most cases a discounted cash rate (CRO discounted rate, or AP holder rate, AAA, etc.) is better alternative & even going through the effort of renting out the points you'd need to use and using that $ to pay cash reservation would probably put you ahead value wise over utilizing points for POR.
