I've been hiding this for awhile, but I feel I need to confess, get it out in the open, free myself.

Deep breath...........

I do not have a cell phone :scared1:

There I said it.

I do not feel the need to be accesible anywhere, everywhere, every second of the day. I admit they are sometimes extremely convienant and I also admit that I am usually with someone who has a cell phone, but I do not have my own cell phone and often venture out into the world without one. So there are actual times when I am out of contact.

I still have an actual LAND line at my house. When I get home I check to see if anybody called. :confused3 I can also access my home voice mail to see if I have any messages, sometimes people have to wait to talk to me. :scared1:
I survive, they survive. It's fine. :teeth:

I actually get it!

I had a job where I had to be available at all times. I lived on my cell phone and e-mail.

Now I still have a cell phone, but sometimes it is out of charge or turned off for days!

I also have a land line but I almost never pick it up when it is ringing. If you want to reach me, leave a message! I do check my voice mail.

I have a cell phone, but I don't even know my phone number. I have had it for years I just never use it, but my husband makes me have it for emergencies. He knows never to call it because I never have it on (but I do know how to turn it on and make a call). Some people left me messages when I first got it and I didn't get them till like a year later!. But I am a step above TXYankee...I do answer my landline :rotfl:

I hear ya though, if I am out...I don't want to be reached :) I couldn't believe on our last WDW trip how many people answered their cell phones on rides and during shows- it was crazy!

I wanted to chime in and say sometimes the simplier things in life a are better way to go. :)

I would absolutely LOVE to get rid of my cell phone! When my contract expires in Jan '10 I am highly considering it!
I hate that everyone can get ahold of me anytime, anywhere!! And if I don't answer it I get in trouble from whoever called :goodvibes

I don't have facebook, twitter or myspace either! I like to stay mysterious ;)

We moved from NC to WA last year and one of the things we decided on was to get rid of the phone service plan. My dh and I both have pay as you go phones for emergencies, but that's it. We found the transition very easy. Come to find out that there are phones everywhere....even at work, school, and home! :thumbsup

Didn't you just get an iPhone? ;)

My boss at work is the same, hates the idea of a mobile phone but is starting to think he might need one due to his work etc, he's not keen at all tho :)

:goodvibes

I actually have 2, but both of them are semi-broken and i haven't got around to buying a new one yet.

I don't like it ether, I use it for emergencies or quick calls and occassionally talking to my boyfriend, but unlike most 20 year olds, it isn't glued into my hand.... that would be my laptop! :rotfl:

Well, I do have a pre-paid Tracfone. But it is not part of my life, so I don't think of myself as having a cell phone.

Others in the Dis community make the iphone seem so wonderful. I worry that we are missing out. But think of all the money we are saving! (for a trip to WDW....)

Back in March of this year I switched from Tracfone to Virgin Mobile and got a LG phone called the Flare. I love this Phone. I am on the Virgin Mobile Prepaid plain. Two weeks after I got the Phone I found on the Ringtone section of the company's website my favorite 80's song as a Ringtone. it is "Something About You" by UK 80's British-Funk band Level 42. Now the song is on my Phone. I even downloaded the 80's arcade game Galaga on my Phone I play it when i want to have a video Game fix

I too hate the phone. I do have a cell phone however, but I never talk on it. I only use it for texting. (I really needed it w/ 2 teens, need to keep track). I found I really like texting. it is private, no one can hear you blabbing, and the way I use it is very unobtrusive. However, if I didn't have the teens, I wouldn't have a phone either. ;)

While I do have a cell phone, and a work cell phone, I'm terrible because I rarely answer either of them. If the work cell rings and I dont' recongnize the number or it's after 5pm, I ignore it. I mostly have that so when I travel for work I can check work email and my calendar. My personal cell phone really needs to be replaced - half the time it's not working and I just dont' know it - but I just dont' care enough to spend the time to go get a new one. DH bought me this one 3 years ago - I wish he'd just go get me a new one!! I want an I phone, but I think I wouldn't use it so I can't justify the cost. I do need to replace my phone though - at 3 months pregnant it's just smarter for me to have a working cell phone. I figure I should get a new one with a semi decent camera too for impromptu pics of the little one in a few months. Of course even once I have one that works, I dont' know that I'll bother to go find it when I'm home and it rings. I really only answer it when I'm out of the house. Once i'm home, call me on the house phone or don't bother. :confused3

I have one but it is strictly for emergencies. I don't even know the phone number. It is a pre-paid one and I maybe spend $5.00 a year. My DH really really hates cell phones so I am lucky to have even that. He refuses to get one.

Ok....I admit it.

I am addicted to my cell phone.

I dont spend a great deal of time talking. My conversations are usually less than a minute.

With that said....the few times I have left the house without it almost causes a panic attack.

There have been too many times when it has been a necessity to think about not having it.

Wow. I'm not the only one! :goodvibes

I do have a pager. An old fashioned put the number over it pager. I have to have it for work in case of a major emergency like a total system crash. I get paged maybe once a month, not even that...but when I had my mom's old cell phone for a couple months while while the contract ran out, I got called alot more. With the pager, they know it better be an emergency if they page, but with the cell I would get unnecessary "I just have a quick question" calls, without a cell they think for themselves! :rotfl:

I don't even like talking to people on cell phones, usually the connection isn't as good as a land line and they disconnect, get staticy, many are LOUD, they drive me nuts. When my sister calls from her cell, I turn the volume on my phone all the way down and it still seems like she is yelling in my ear. It is hard to have an actual conversation on a cell IMHO.

I have a tracfone for when I travel that is my personal cell phone, most of the time it is turned off, I just buy the 1 year activation card to keep it activated. ( I have found a message on the VM 6 months after the fact, I have since changed the message to say don't leave me a message on this line and have directed the caller to call one of the other numbers they have for me)

For a year now I have a cell phone for work too, that is on Sprint. I work in an environment that I am up and moving around alot, so having a desk phone really didn't work for me. Initially, I had a cordless phone, that I carried that rang on my office line, but this type of phone became obsolete when we went to Voice over IP (VOIP) internet phones. They gave me the cell phone, so I now forward my office phone # to and then I am reachable anywhere in on our campus.

I still have a land line at home, but I rarely answer it, as it is usually someone wanting to sell me something. I figure if it is important they will leave a message on the answering machine and I will call them back.

As much as I would love an Iphone, I don't think I could justify the cost of one.

.

That is the great thing about this board...you are never "the only one"!

No one laughs at your confession, but you can bet there will be supporters!

"The anti cell phone collective" We are not One. We will not Asimmilate. Don't call us, we'll call you!

Despite having a cell I don't think they're always a necessity. I only talk to DH on my breaks as we can plan stuff and it kills the time. If I don't want to talk I don't answer.

I would say in over 10 years of having a phone (I got my first one in 1998 or 1999) I have only really needed it once, we were at a Guide (like Girl Scouts) camp in a field a good 30 minutes from a landline or public phone. Some young men had found us and we could hear them running around the site (in the middle of the night :scared1:) as we had young girls with us and the only adults were women we had to call the land owner and police. We were able to do this from inside our tent without raising too much attention. Luckily they didn't touch anything and wandered off - but having the connection to the 'outside world' was very comforting.
