I have a babysitting job, and I'm pretty nervous!

I'm accompanying a family to the southern part of the state for a wedding New Years Eve, I have my own room and all. I guess we're going to spend Saturday afternoon going to various activities and then at 6 the kids and I will stake out in my room until about 12:30 when the parents return. I'm just kinda nervous, I feel like I'm going to stay stupid stuff, I'm really nervous about riding down there with the kids grandmother, I don't know why, what will we talk about, it's a long car ride!


Anyone else done this before?

Don't be nervous! Just be yourself and you will be okay. I used to do this sort of babysitting when I was a teenager. I would accompany a family to the beach and I would have my own hotel room with the kids and the parents would have another room. It always worked out alright.

I agree! Just be yourself! They are taking you with them because they like you, just the way you are! Relax and enjoy the trip. Stay calm and make good decisions! Have fun! I will be rooting for you so that everything goes perfect!

Just relax! It will be fine! As everyone else said, they CHOSE YOU because they trust and like you. Just be yourself. And have fun!

I am trying to convince my aunt and uncle to take me with them when they go to Disney with their 2 kids. The problem is that I have 3 other cousins and a brother (I'm the oldest), so they are all about being "fair" to everyone. Geez, why does everything have to be fair? LOL. I keep telling them that I would watch my two cousins so they can go out to eat by themselves or whatever. And they would stay at a nice hotel (Beach and Yacht Club most likely versus the All-Stars, which is where we stay all the time).

Megan, everyone else is correct in saying to relax...they choose you for YOU! No pressure to do anything else but take care of the kiddos while the parents are away.

I did this for my aunt and uncle on a trip to WDW once. I was the oldest cousin at the time...18...and their 5 kids were all under 12 with the youngest being 2. My main responsibility was to take care of the youngest. It was a nice week.

You'll have a great time!!! Will you have games or movies with you to entertain the kids in the hotel room?

I know you will be great.
I think it would be a good idea to talk to the parents about movies -toys etc.. for the room.
Also you may want to bring an ipod(with headphones) /book/magazine for yourself if they are asleep in the room and you have to be quiet.
I'll bet afterwards they will like discussing the wedding -so that will give you something to talk about on the way home.

Speaking of the bringing things...

do you have stuff for the kids to do? Hotel rooms are pretty much not very fun except for the TV!

do you have stuff for yourself to do in case the grandmother doesn't feel like talking?

If all else fails, BOOKS ON TAPE! We listen to books on tape for all our longer car rides, and some short ones too. You could bring a portable CD player to play them in the room, too. We usually take the Harry Potter ones with us because we all love those and the voices the narrator does are so entertaining.

I LOVE Jim Dale the guy that narrates the Harry Potter Books.
He does such a good job.
