I hate my boss and am so ready to walk out. I have been here for 5 months and he talks to you like your stupid, degrades you like you don't know anything and is just mean at times and other times he is as nice a pie(split personality) He gives you all his work to do and he does nothing. He will ask that you call someone for something and if you do and just leave that person a voicemail message he will make you call again and again and call their cell phone, call their secretary,, email....like all within the same 10 minutes. It is so embarressing and annoying b/c its not like it is an emergencey its just that he likes things done NOW!
But if you do something wrong he yells at you and again talks to you like you are stupid..Like he did to me today. I work for a commercial real estate company and my boss is having a meeting with all the tenants to make sure everything is ok and if they have any problems. Well the last meeting the tenants asked if we could extend the cafeteria hours...so I emailed the people that run the cafeteria and they were not able to. Now this was back in july that this took place. Apparently I forwarded the email to my boss that they were unable to extend the hour of the cafeteria (but I didnt remember that today). Well they had another tenant meeting today and he asked me if I had told him about the cafeteria and I said yes I did (b/c we did verbally talk about it also) and then he started....
"""""well you need to email me when there are issues, you cant expect me to remember things you tell me in passing when I have other things on my mind, why didn't you email me you should have emailed it to me. This was back in July and now we have the meeting and we are not prepared for it" I was like "not prepared for what..the people at the cafeteria said they couldnt extend the hours" he said "well now we have to go to the meeting and this should have been talked about and communicated already...""""
Now mind you when he is saying all this to me he has that tone in his voice and is talking down to me.

I know this story might now sound all that bad but when its on a constant basis it gets to you be time.
He has lost 3 or 4 other people b/c of his attitude. I hate him and hope he gets what he deserves. Thanks for letting me vent :)

Oh my. I can see why you are so frustrated with your boss. I think I'd look for a new job too. ::yes::

I worked somewhere awful when I first moved here. I only stayed long enough to get another job. It was just a soul-suckingly terrible place. When I quit, they BEGGED me to stay and offered me a raise. I'd only been there 3 months--I'm pretty sure I was replaceable. JUST LET ME OUTTA HERE!

I've been at this job almost 3 years and it's wonderful. Maybe you should start looking for somewhere new. There's nothing worse than sitting in the parking lot dreading walking into an awful job.

I wish you the best of luck!

I had a boss like that one. For 10 years. I started out being really quiet and just taking it, and then eventually realized that he was just going to keep doing it so I might as well speak up. He'd had a number of people in my position before me (kind of like a personal assistant/office manager/book keeper/overall organizer) and none of them had lasted all that long. Everyone was amazed that I managed to last 10 years. He was a technophobe, so I had to (for about 8 years) pick up his email for him, print it out, he'd write out a reply and I'd send it off for him. He'd complain about people not sending him stuff that I'd already printed out and was sitting on his desk. And I'd point out to him it was on his desk, and he'd say that they should have celled to let him know they were sending him an email. What? I told him that if he'd bother to pick up his own email, then he'd be able to check on what things were sent to him and when. He'd come in at 10 every day, leave at 4, and go out for lunch almost every day. He complained about having too much to do and how I wasn't doing enough. I was at work from 7am to 6pm every week day, worked through lunch and was in most weekends.

Everyone knew what a jerk he was. He loved his speakerphone and used it every chance he had. One day he was on the phone with a secretary in another department, and after he *thought* he'd hung up he told me how stupid she was and how she didn't know how to do her job properly. Next thing you know there's a voice from the speakerphone saying "I'm still on the line you know".

When I was laid off, it was because he was doing a re-org and had decided to do away with my position and create a new one that would be my job PLUS half of his, because he was still doing too much work. And he was planning on paying the new position less than he paid me, and basically just use the person until they burned out and then hire someone new.

So, do I regret standing firm and (politely) talking back to him? Not at all. If I didn't put him in his place, he would have walked all over me until I had burned out.

I, too, had a nasty boss. I only lasted there for about 6 months, then I called my prior job and asked them to take me back.

My boss would say things like, "I know you're not a stupid girl..."

He'd tell us to just get a name and telephone number when someone called, not to take a message. Then he would ask, "What did he call about?"

I got my paycheck on a Friday, left a note on his desk and that was it.

He had two partners -- one threw himself through a plate glass window (before my time), the other (while I was working there) had a total breakdown and packed up all his files and stuff in the middle of the night...never to be heard from again.

My boss now (past 3 years) is a great guy, as is the new associate he just hired. I actually told my boss that he can't retire until I'm ready to, because I don't want to have to find another job.

I won't go into it but right now I hate work with a passion and my boss hates me . lol..
