I hate when Tom Brokaw breaks down on tv...

just now..he was talking to the mom of one of the soilders that died.................

crying too......makes them all human and not just tv reporters

I thought the families of people serving would like to know that Tom Brokaw spoke out on their behalf. He was trying to get all of us to realize that, even if we don't know someone serving, we all owe a tremendous debt to these wonderful men and women.

The mother of one of the Marines killed also spoke out quite elequontly about the impact watching the war "live" is having on the families of service people. She knew where her son was yesterday and she knew what had happened before she was officially told. As she said, technology is great but it is making it very hard on the families. They feel compelled to never leave the TV. Brokaw said they realize that is a new problem they have to face.

I heard this morning that one reporter let the unit he was with use his satellite phone. These soldiers were able to call home from the front lines! Truly amazing. There is good and bad to our "instant world".

I think of all the journalists I like him the best, he is sooo feeling. Da Rather is good, but sometimes hard to listen to. Some people just have that voice, it can move you to tears, Oprah is one for sure.

I was watching when Tom Brokaw was speaking with the mom whose marine son died today. She was so brave and so eloquent during the worst moment of her life. What she had to say was so relevant and important. She wanted everyone to realize that as wonderful as the technology is that brings us the coverage of the war live is..it is as she called it "murder" for those who have loved ones serving at this dangerous time.
Tom Brokaw was so appreciative of her speaking to them, and for bringing the true reality of what this war is to them. That for every graphic they show, there are real human beings putting their lives at risk for something they believe in. I had such a lump in my throat...she brought tears to my eyes, and then I noticed all the men on the panel were choking up...and then Mr. Brokaw was having a tough time holding it together. Not something you see too often in Network news. They became real people, not just talking heads.

I watched that as well. It was one of the most honest and riveting moments I have ever seen. This is why God gave us television. How anybody can watch "reality" shows after seeing something like this is beyond me.

One of the Marines killed, Ryan Beaupre, was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University. My DH had Ryan in class several years back.....my heart goes out to his family. One of my DH's colleagues said it best: Until now we saw lines of soldiers, but we didn't always have a face. Now we have a face. I know this brave young man volunteered willingly and knowingly. I'm not sure I could ever, ever be that brave- to fight to save people's rear ends that he didn't even know. He is, at least in my family's heart, a real hero. May our newsmen never stop feeling when we lose a soldier.

We lost a true hero in the act of bravery. God, rest his soul and give support to his family. :(

I thought the piece with Brokow was well done. I have many issues with how the press usually handles these things, but he was very compasionate. If only so many of the others would use him as a role model...

It's a tough situation and they have a job to do, but it goes much deeper than ratings.

Amen.

The fact is, that while our ability to bring people from around the world together via the internet is a fantastic fete, the ability to also show a real war LIVE and in technicolor is perhaps not our greatest achievement in communications.

I do not understand why the war is on tv. Why are we telling Iraq when we are coming and what we will do when we get there.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS AND THE FAMLIES.
uNTIED WE STAND
