DS who will be turning 7 in June has had his heart set on having a pool/pizza party for his birthday since late last summer. We thought it would be possible so we told him we would do it. Well....DH went to make the reservations and finds out that the Italians are not opening the pool this year until July1st. ARGH! Now I have to explain to DS that we can't have the pool party and we are going to have to come up with a plan B. We have already ordered some of the supplies (pool related) and the invitations are already printed (again pool related) so now we have to start all over and we only have 5 weeks to do it.

And for anyone who will suggest having his party after the pool opens, it isn't possible because we will be going to america for part of the summer.

Thanks for letting me whine.

Awww, sorry to hear that! I really don't hear YOU whining but, I can imagine what DS might whine about! {{HUGS}} Poor guy! :( I'm sure Plan B will be great tho!!!

Happy & safe travels to the U.S.! :)

Sorry to hear this :( Is there any way you can do a beach party kind of theme? Possibly have it in a big yard/park with a inflatable pools, pink flamingos, sprinklers and the like? We did that one year for a friend in high school and she thought it was cool :) Good luck, but I am sure whatever you do will be great :)

I hope hes heart isn;t broken since he has wanted this. I like helenabear's ideas!

They aren't opening the pool until July 1st??

I'd suggest a compromise -- another theme for the birthday, then have a pool party either in the US when you get here, or have one just to have one at the end of the season if the pools will still be open when you get home?

oh debbi I am sorry to hear of this sudden change of plan.. I know he wanted the pool party of his dreams. You have gotten some good suggestions.

I was thinking how about a "super Soaker" party? Boys and super soakers are a natural!
I vote for the beach theme too! Do the whole shebang! I am sure the kids would have a grand time.

Holler if you need anything!... Hec I will even send you a box of California beach sand!

Tiggerlover,
For DD's 16 bday party [4 years ago] we rented a dunk tank. [like they have at carnivals] The kids had SO MUCH FUN! Would you have access to do this? The cost of renting the tank will probably be about the same as paying admission to the pool for the kids.
:D

I agree with El! You could still have a lot of fun with a "beach theme" my ds would love that!

You could even get hawaiian with it.

There are a lot of possibilities!!

How about getting a slip and slide. Set the up in one area, then in the other areas put out big tubs with water in them. In one tub sprinkle in water guns, in another fill it with the splat water balls (soak up the water and release it when you hit the target). Then keep the hose set up with a little attachmet on the end and a big bag of water balloons.
