I was trying to insert a picture that isn't online anywhere- just off my camera...can someone explain to me how to do it? I tried cut and pasting it, didn't work

OK, our neighbors (who live across the street from us) have had this tramp. for several years now- maybe 4 years? This tramp. has been in the discussion and hate of many parents, it has been the cause of 3 broken limbs, 25 stitches (2 different kids) and now will be the disscussion of the entire town for quite some time.

Last night around 9 pm. we had one of the worst wind, rain and hail storms I've ever experianced in my life. We actually went into our basement and stayed away from windows. The winds were 53 mph. with gusts up to 85 mph.

As I was walking up the steps from our down stairs, I heard something hitting our house. I looked out the window thinking the storm was almost done to see metal rods flying at our home with big gusts of wind coming up. I went back downstairs to wait for a few more minutes.

When my family all finally came upstairs, we looked into our front yard to see metal pipes and springs laying EVERY WHERE. On the street, inside of a car WINDOW that was parked in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD with it's door open...and after the wind was totally down, my husband went outside with a big flashlight to check on the damage. I went with him. He started picking up the metal pipes and he knew they were from the tramp, but he didn't see the tramp. where it was supposed to be in our neighbors back yard. I looked in our back yard and there was a GAPING HOLE in our fence...I ran back to check it out and looked through the fence to see blood on the fence, I started YELLING and screaming for my husband. He and I ran into the back of our yard to see that the tramp went completely through our fence, across our lawn taking out 2 of our trees and finally stopped by smashing into the back of our fence breaking that too. The blood was from a bird. Apparently, the tramp had hit a bird and it was caught ON one of the poles- the pole went right through the bird. Thank goodness it was only a bird!

SO, for me, who HATES trampolienes ALREADY, to have this happen is absolutely making my point EVEN MORE. This was no flimsy, low quality tramp. It was an expensive one that was professionally installed and STEAKED into the ground. Well, those steaks ended up becoming weapons flying through the air. One smashed into another neighbors window and cracked it, others were stabbed through trees!

Now I know ANOTHER reason why insurance companies HATE trampolienes! Not just because they cause thousands of injuries a year while people are JUMPING ON THEM...it's because all of their metal poles, springs, pipes- they become weapons when the wind gets high enough. I THANK THE LORD that no one was majorly hurt. The person driving the car was hurt by getting Slammed with a pole in the head- stitches and head wound, but he'll be ok.

There were 12 tramp.s in our area that caused damage. TWELVE!!! They were picked up by the wind and smashed through things, one person had poles and pipes rammed through their windows!

Before you can post the pick on the DIS it needs to be online. can't upload it from the hard drive or camera straight to the DIS. Try putting ti on Facebook or photobucket then posting it here.

How does this work? Will the neighbors insurance cover your damage? I wouldn't think you'd have to make a claim on your own!

Sorry but I keep picturing a TRAMP hitting your house!!:lmao:

This tramp. has been in the discussion and hate of many parents, it has been the cause of 3 broken limbs, 25 stitches (2 different kids) and now will be the disscussion of the entire town for quite some time.

I knew someone like that!!:scared:

Same thing happened to one of my relatives only it was their tram and it damaged their house.

I know that they cause injuries, but I have to say that this realitve has had theirs for years and no one ever got hurt, maybe they had stricter rules, although I do know that sometimes it doesn't matter. I know my kids wanted one and I wouldn't do it.

As far as hating them because they becomes weapons, I guess you aren't from Florida. Everything can become a weapon in a hurricane or heavy storm, we are just used to dealing with that fact.

As a comedian once said while talking about hurricanes. "It isn't THAT the wind is blowing, it is WHAT the wind is blowing."

On a serious note, I would think that their home owners insurance would cover it, At least I would hope it does.

So sorry that happened to you, and I'm glad no humans were hurt by it (in the storm, anyway!).

I will never, ever, EVER buy a trampoline. Never. My neighbor is an ER doctor and has told me horror stories about trampoline injuries. Yes, even the ones with enclosures. People are lulled into a false sense of security with those enclosures, believing that makes them "safe." WRONG. It's not falling off of the trampoline that causes injuries, it's how they land, and what body part they land on.

That being said, I do think they're super fun. :D If they weren't so flippin' dangerous, I'd have one in a heartbeat. I think they're a blast to jump on, and great exercise.

People think trampolines are a toy, and that is definetly NOT the case. They are a tool used in sport. People train and practice to be safe on them. I would never have on in my yard ever.

With that said, i actually LOVE trampolines. I took a tumble class, I took a jumping class, I tok a dropping class. They are an amazing workout (in faxt after my frist day at tumble, i had worked out muscles that i didn't even know i had, to the point i couldn't move!!!)

To the OP.. it really bad that your neighbor is so irresponcible (both with the kids as well as the tramp itself) especially in a hurrican zone.. he should have either tied it down/secured it, or dismantled it all togheter.

This really has nothing to do with the evils of trampolines. Anything could have caused that damaged. A porch swing, a patio chair or table........

That's horrible ! Please don't post a picture of the bird :scared1: as a pp stated it could have been anything. I look at all my neighbors and the "things" that could become a missile when a storm is coming. I have a horse on my property its a big fear of mine that she'll get hit by flying debris.
Your fence, will you have to go through your homowners insurance or the neighbors? I know ours has a rider on it for a pool (we don't have) and a trampoline (don't have that either) but its pretty standard with it I guess.

and yes thank God no one (other than the bird) was hurt.

They should have had the trampoline tied down. I hope that you get fully reimbursed without hassle.

For the posters who missed this part.

Anything can be used to damage property in high winds. A tree can come out of the ground or a limb can break away.

That's not what this is about though. The story was about 12 trampoline's blowing around, not 12 trees, porch swings, etc.

I know most of ya love your trampoline's, but jeesh.

I missed that the trampoline was staked. I wonder if it was done properly though? Ugh, either way it's a mess.

Trampolines cause a LOT of damage in wind storms. I know of someone who's deck was taken off their house from a trampoline blowing into their deck. Yes, a lawn chair can cause some damage but they are not as big as a tramp and don't cause as much damage. Since the cause of the damage was wind, your insurance will take care of it without a raise in rates to you if their insurance doesn't cover the damage.

Was this a freak storm or were ya'll expecting it?

I always hear about people getting hurt on trampolines, but don't know anyone who has.

We have a lot of them in our neighborhood, too. However, when we expect big storms, taking the trampoline down and storing it somewhere safe is part of the storm prep -- just like hurricane shutters and putting away lawn furniture, swings, etc. Big storms don't reallt sneak up on us much, but then again, we're used to them.

Act of God, more than likely no insurance company will accept the claim.

That is not even CLOSE to true. A wind storm, lightning, tornadoes, hail, etc. are ALL covered by insurance. The "Act of God" that everyone quotes is from policies that were written in the 1920's.

Minigirl-storms like these you get maybe 30 minutes notice. They are not like hurricanes where you have days to prepare. Yesterday morning the weather reports said we had a 50% chance of severe storms last night. We got a lot of rain and lightening but no major winds. The night before last we had a 90% chance of storms and got nothing. If a storm track moves even a couple miles your chances of getting hit or not change pretty rapidly. Just 15 miles south of us they had 70MPH winds though. Now, if I owned a tramp and there was a good chance of a storm I would at LEAST turn it over so it isn't as subject to the wind.

I think most insurance companies will cancel your policy if they find out you have a trampoline, and refuse to pay if it causes any damages. I'm guessing you will have to take them to court if they don't offer to pay. A friend of mine bought one, and I asked her what her insurance company said. She had no idea it might be a problem!
