That I insist on sitting next to my mom someone to remind me to breath as ne keep my eyes on my tablet not out the window freaking myself out every time I feel the plane move

Sorry said the jerk but my anxiety is getting worse in some situations better in other situations

Anti anxiety pills (apparently the brand name is banned on here lol) work so well for me on planes.
I am not afraid of flying but I get restless legs and distracting myself doesn't help but taking a nap does.
If you have that hard of a time flying you may want to consider talking to your doctor about taking something for it.

I have heard writing your name with your none dominant hand can really help when I get time I will try to look up the news article and anxiety and flying it was really cool ( I think it was on ABC).

I can not find the article but I do remember them saying to try to focus on something but flaying ( writing with your nondominant hand does this because you have to think about what you are doing)

get a straw and breath through this ( helps slow your breathing down)

do not drink before your flight or take any medication for anxiety unless your dr gives you an RX as this can make it worst

try to list something with all 5 of your sense ( what can you see, what can you smell, and so on)

Why would that make you "that person"?

Unless you're flying an airline/with a ticket where seat selection is chargeable and you're not planning on paying, but still insisting that you sit next to your mom, I don't see how wanting to sit next to your mom makes you "that person"?

Yeah, I was going to suggest consulting your doctor if you haven't already. It may be that there isn't a medication that is right for you, but then again there might be. Especially if you have the next couple of months to figure it out with them.

My mother is in the same boat as you, and I'm hoping I'll be able to get her on a plane with me someday. The fact that you've gotten this far is a great sign!!!

Make sure to get good headphones tink, I would put in a book on tape, close your eyes, sit back and relax. Close your eyes and breathe. You will be fine.

But guess what? You just identified your anxiety - and that gives you a chance to find a way to manage it. Believe me, a lot of people never are able to even do what you just did, so I think it's important.

And you aren't "that person" by yourself. Lots of people are uncomfortable with flying. As others here have said, work with your doctor, or (if you have one) your therapist, to identify medications and/or strategies to help you feel more at ease when you fly.

And then sit next to your Mom. Because us Mom's love it when you are next to us anyway! :)

Because prior to this I did not care if I sat next to my mom or not

Okay, but now that you know that you care (and it is absolutely NOT a problem to know that you need to sit next to your mom), have you done everything that you can to ensure that it happens?

Agree with the suggestions that you've received from others, but also, definitely do what you can to ensure that you're sitting beside your mom. How you do that depends on the airline on which you are flying.

I dont know what airline my mom picked I think she picked southwest or delta.

Let's find out! Ask Mom which airline she picked, and (if it's possible) if she has made seat selections yet. Let's find out exactly what the situation is - because it could be that you don't have to worry about being next to Mom :) I bet you would feel relieved to know either way, and worse case scenario is that you have to ask Southwest if there is some way you can board and sit together.

Sometimes, our anxiety wants to run away with the show, so look for places where you can reign it back in, and YOU take control again!

I fly but sometimes I don't enjoy it much. I think I'd love it if I knew the plane would land safely - haha! What helps me is weeks/months before the flight when I think of flying is to think about all the planes flying right now - all the flights going in and out of Orlando, Florida, the USA - all around the world - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even non-commercial flights for packages, military flights, etc. Just so so so planes every day and all the time in every type of weather. It truly is the safest way to travel. That is what works for me pre-flight. I agree with pre-selecting seats if you can and talking to your doctor about what to do on the flight.

You need to find out.

If SW - you may want to consider EBCI, though you can likely use medical preboard.

If Delta - you'll want to make sure that your mom didn't choose the Basic Economy fare. That fare doesn't include pre-selecting seats, so you get whatever is left when you check in. Given that others have paid to pre-select their seats, you cannot expect others to move for you if you didn't. There are a couple of threads that have similar discussions. If your mom did get Basic Ecomomy, she/you may be able to upgrade to "normal" Economy and pre-select your seats.

We are flying United

Okay, then the same things applies as per Delta. Make sure that you have a fare that includes seat selection (or, at least allows you to pay for seat selection) and choose two seats together that work for you. And the keep an eye on them to make sure that they don't change (for example, there may be a change in plane type and seats get reassigned).
