and it really sucks that wonderful, innocent animals have to live with idiots

Sorry you had a bad day Jen. Spend some time with people that do care about animals. They far outnumber the idiots.

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font color=#006400>Well, Doc... you can look at it this way, too...

Thank goodness there are people like you who care enough to take care of the animals who depend on people.

Good luck, and hugs.... sometimes it can be so hard.

I imagine that your job can be hard sometimes. Some people are just stupid when it comes to dealing with pets and it can be heartbreaking. I'll never understand what motivates some people to even get a pet. :(

What a rough job. :(

One of my SIL's went to vet tech school for awhile, she loves animals and thought about a career change (she's a CPA) but couldn't take seeing the pets in pain and some of the other things that went on. She went back to accounting.

Hugs Jan. We're not all bad you know. Some of us take care of our animals. In fact, my kitties are downright spoiled indoor cats. And the dogs have their own outside kennel but come in at night to sleep with the family.
Btw my animals are wonderful to me. They wake me in the morning, snuggle with me when I'm hurting and tell me when someone arrives home or is at the door. I couldn't live without them.

hi jen!!!!! think happy thoughts!!! :teeth:

I like animals more than people too!

They are so very grateful for the basic necessities of life. How can some people be so heartless?

Well Doc I know what you mean. I have "rescued" dogs and cats from neighbors who neglected their pets all my life.
I have stopped my car on a busy highway to rescue a cat blindly walking into a busy road with a can stuck on its head.
I thank you for taking the time to take care of the animals you can reach.
Sorry you had a bad day...

I totally agree. I get particularly upset when I see people ignore/abuse their pet birds (this is my MOST sensitive point). Unfortunately, it seems that most bird owners don't respect the intelligence, attitude, and vulnerability of their pet birds. Believe it or not, I actually had a nightmare about an abused macaw last night.

My original plan was to become a vet but. One major reason I did not go this route was because of the heart ache. Thankfully, there are people like you. Thanks!

I agree Jen.
I wanted to be a vet tech but decided against it for those same reasons. I couldn't bare dealing with idiots who mistreat and don't understand how to care for animals. It makes my heart break going into a pet store and seeing people buy the bare minimum for their new pet. (I guess this is my pet obsessive nature speaking-I research and buy nothing but the best for the care of my furry "kids") I recently took in a guinea pig because I didn't want the person giving it away to post an ad in a local school. I had visions of him being terrorized by little kids. This poor guy had been left in a dark basement for a year because the owner said her kids were allergic. Year later I find out they have a new bunny rabbit in a crummy cage in the basement. :(

I feel for you.

That just breaks my heart. Why do these stupid people even get animals if they don't want to care for them properly. My cats are a part of the family, they are not just there for the entertainment factor or until the exitement wears off. I hate when people buy the cheapest crap they can find (especially food) because its "just for the dog (or other animal)." I had a neighbor who ran out of cat food one evening. Rather than share a little of their dinner or ask me or another neighbor to borrow some cat food (we are a close neighborhood), she just let them go hungry. Never mind the fact that the grocery store was still open and it is only a 5 minute drive away. She said she was "just too tired to bother."

((((HUGS)))) Doc! My vet expresses the same concerns some days!

Sorry you had a bad day, Jen. :(

If I may, I wanted to say how nice it was to meet you. We haven't always agreed on things ;), but I really enjoy meeting DISers that I have "known" for a long time.

Here's hoping today is a better day!
Cathy

I am sorry you had a bad day, Jen.........but just know that there are always those people who rescue animals too. In fact, my family rescued a feral cat who was starving to death at the local university. We are working with him.........and even though he is getting better..........he still wants to kill our other cat and constantly bites us. Luckily, we are committed to helping him, patient.........and that there are antibiotics in the world!!!! Just know that ALL people aren't mean to animals!!!!
