My printer broke a couple years ago and I still haven't bought a new one. If I want something to just print out black and white coupons will any printer work with my computer? Its an old Sony.

All these good coupon deals are starting to get to me! I shop at Gap and they constantly have great coupons, same thing with express. And now Lowes has a $10 one available. I would actually save money by buying a printer

You could email the links to them to yourself and print them out at the library. The library here allows 10 printed pages per day for free.

Just curious -- why don't you just buy a cheap printer? It would be worth it to me to spend $35 to buy an inexpensive printer and print out coupons, etc. Obviously, you have some money to spend because you're wanting coupons to use on purchases.

The library sounds like a good idea, but with the price of gas these days, not sure I'd want to spend my time running back and forth to the library to print out 10 pages each visit.

There are laser printers for around $50 that only print in black ink -- so you could look for one of those. I believe either Office Max or Office Depot has one on sale this week.

I would suggest to ask a friend or family member for an old one, but the refills alone sometimes are more than the price of a new printer. I'd just buy the new one if it was me.

I am curious as why buy a cheap printer. I see printer on sale all the time. Espically if check slickdeals all the time. They had one for 30 bucks the other day.

It is .10 at our library too.
I have the text codes sent to my phone and use that. All the major stores I shop I have the tweets from.

You can buy a printer pretty cheaply, but the issue for you is whether or not the drivers for the printer will work on your computer. What OS are you running? Have you upgraded software or just used what you got with the computer? If you haven't upgraded in a while, it could be difficult to find drivers that will work.

Kodak printers are not that expensive and the ink is less than 50% of other printers. I only paid 99 for my wireless version!!

I would agree with this except we've had one for about a year, and we find ours uses way more ink than our HP did. So it's expensive ink that lasts longer, or cheap ink that you replace more often.

A few options:
Try to ask for one on freecycle, that's where mine came from.
See if the store will take just the coupon code written down. I know Carters will do this.
If you have a smartphone see if the store will scan the barcode of the coupon off your phone.

It's not the printer that is expensive, it would be the $30/month worth of ink to print $10 worth of coupons per month that is expensive.

Ink is dang expensive, and doesn't seem to last very long at all.

That is an extreme exaggeration of the costs to print coupons. I print all the time with my Canon printer which has expensive ink cartridges and I pay nowhere near that. Set your printer to print in black and white, lowest print quality, and the ink will last a long time.

I second what a PP said ~ go with a laser printer for couponing! I have an old HP laserjet that I always print my coupons on. I seriously print out about 30-50 coupons every month and my cartridge lasts a minimum of a year before starting to run low. That is on top of many, many homework papers printed out by my 4 DDs.

We very rarely hook up our Lexmark all in one printer anymore. I found the ink went up in price drastically and seemed to run out faster and faster.

I get my laserjet cartridges through MyPoints and only pay about $35 for one. I recoup at least that much in one month of couponing! :thumbsup2

Mine broke and a day without one drove me insane. Just get a cheap one if you need a printer. They are very inexpensive unless you need a lot of other smart features.

I saw a stack of HP printers at Walmart last week for $49, which I thought was pretty cheap. As I recall, they could also be used to copy and scan, which are nice features to have.

It sounds like the OP has every intention of picking up a printer- her question was if it will work with her older computer. I think that most printers should work with it. Just get a simple one! You can even browse Craigslist for free or cheap used printers.. maybe even Goodwill will have one!

This was my concern, I seem to remember easily paying $30+ for a cartridge.

Thanks I just wasn't sure if any printer would do. I'm not an electronics person at all! I'll stop by best buy or something tomorrow.

I bought a basic HP black/white/color printer from WalMart a couple weeks ago for $29, ink cartridges included. When I priced replacement cartridges for the printer, a combo BW/color pack...HP61... cost $30, so the printer cost was the price of the ink. A weekend later, WalMart offered a $10 gift card if you purchased the same ink cartridges. So I now have a spare set of ink for cheap.

Good luck! I'd like to hear what printer you decided on! I think Best Buy or another electronics store is your best bet- you'll be able to talk to someone who knows something about them.
