I hate know it alls......

Exactly . I would have joined another conversation after rolling my eyes.

I wish there could have been another conversation!!! He was non stop...going on and on and on... My BFF was gone anyway picking up her son from a Carnival so it was no loss to leave. It's just his nature and drives me crazy. I once tried to play trivial pursuit with him...I had to quit that too :lmao:

Haha probably.... but this guy always shows up univited and drives me nuts no matter what the subject!!! they all know I'm a disney travel agent so to tell me I'm wrong mad me so mad..it's my job to the know correct prices. ( plus it was late and a good time to leave!!)

I had a moment of clarity late last night... possibly they saw a sign that said save 20% on meals with the DDP and mistook it for thinking it costs $20 or so.
who knows!

Wendy, there is a huge possibility they do not like you just like you do not like them and they know you not only TA but that Disney is your soft spot. They just wanted to drive you nuts and they succeded. Do not let them next time. Ignore what they say and they will not have their fun. You left, not they, they did it, they pushed you and they will do it again knowing you cannot stand it. at the end you were the one who could not control your emotions. Believe me, I know people like that and I sometimes forget I need to ignore them and then I feel bad. But when I ignore them they have nothing to say and they feel bad. Any argument needs two parties to exist, do not play their game.
You do not need to proove them a thing. And some opinions are only opinions, so just do not bite. Stay calm, look bored because not having attention is what gets such people the most and that is it.

What bothers me is the know-it-all who wants to give me all their advice and knowledge and yet keeps referring to Walt Disney World as Disneyland. Or the people who think they know everything about WDW because they went to Magic Kingdom only.

Obviously there's a lot to know and a lot of factual information about the place since there are dozens of books written on the subject! I wish some of these people would read these books before feeling the need to set me straight on the facts they're getting wrong anyway.

As a newbie, I've learned a lot from these boards. There's a ton of mis-information out there.

When we told my ILs that we were going to WDW, my FIL insists that we have to ride the Matterhorn at dusk. I just put on my Miss America face and smile. He's not talking EE in AK either.

The fact that this guy (thinks he) knows more than a WDW TA speaks volumes.

I feel your pain OP. Here are just a few Know It All arguments I've had:

My Annual Pass gets me EMH....um, no.

I don't need to make a reservation for BBB in MK for the second week of June. Since I don't want the make up, they'll just do her hair real quick and charge a small amount with no wait. ...yeah, if that were the case, there would be lines of little girls just getting their hair done.

People are boycotting Disney because they are making a movie about a Muslim princess. I've heard this more than once, yet no one can tell me the title or storyline! When I mention that everyone seemed pretty OK with Jasmine, they tell me she's different.

The Figment ride is my favorite! It's just like when I was a kid....except you are 27...so no, completely different....

I can't even start with the various conversations about needing reservations for places like Le Cellier and Chef Mickey's...

Oh, and Disney freaks who call the Haunted Mansion the Haunted House, the Laugh Floor the Laugh Factory, etc.

Aside from their misinformation they were LOUDLY insistant with their opinions. Before my BFF left she was saying how she wanted to stay at a moderate resort and they were like NO! NO! NO! Two of them said...stay off site...and two of them said value resort. Poor Michelle..she couldn't get a word in edge wise. She was saying for a little more per night she could stay at POFQ or POR which she really wanted to do. They were like NO...NO....NO! I even agreed with them on some points...they stay in Windsor Hills which I have in the past and it's beautiful yes..has a great pool yes. BUT...she doesn't want to rent a car, she does want EMH and she does want the DDP. It was useless to argue with them. They asked me where I flew out of recently and I said Harrisburg. They were like WHAT?! WHY? OMG... FOR REAL? WELL WE ONLY FLY OUT OF ATLANTIC CITY...WE ONLY FLY SPIRIT. WHY WOULD YOU FLY ANOTHER AIRLINE? WHY WHY WHY??

It was nuts!

:goodvibes It's curious to me that some of the same folks advising you to just roll with it are frequently involved in heated debates here on the DIS...Just sayin'....;)

It's funny to me in real life when I meet folks like this. Much of the time it's a situation where I'm not involved- like a group of folks having a very loud conversation at the adjoining restaurant table. Then of course you have to totally ignore it, and silently roll your eyes. I also know from the DIS that much of what I might think is 'wrong' information is really moe of an opinion - like if a certain thing is a 'good value.'

I try to always preface any in person conversations by saying something like, "This is just my opinion..." or "Double check what I say for yourself..." We all have to be careful because none of us are perfect 100% of the time.

I also don't get being anal about the names of rides/dining at WDW. If someone calls Magic Kingdom "Disney World" so be it, I'm pretty sure it isn't going to harm anyone. As long as they aren't confusing two different things. I have encountered folks at the WDTC who don't know the difference between CR Tower Bay Lake view rooms and Bay Lake Tower DVC rooms - that IS a problem. Disney made a HUGE mistake going with two names that are SO close to each other! Disney has done that a number of times, sad to say. (like reusing "Princess" and "Pirate" too much) I'm also a big fan of shortening names. I think Disney is guilty of making too many names WAY too long. The hard ticket parties in MK are a prime example. UGH! If you talk to the average layperson and actually use the full name of those parties they have NO IDEA what you mean.

OP - I think KellyNY has hit the nail on the head because I can't imagine getting that mad and leaving a cook-out over Disney its got to run deeper than that .... thats just a little bit, ummmm, extreme :confused3

urg, that is irritating. i know my share of people like that, to be sure:sad2:
i know people who claims to have ridden ToT and there apparently were no seatbelts...

My exSIL taught me 2 important things:

1) Never date a man prettier than you. (I get it doesn't apply here but it was number one on her list.)

and

2) If you always expect stupidity, with people you know do not ever yield on any point, you will never be disappointed.

And when I say stupidity, I'm not talking about ignorance as in simply not knowing. I'm talking about being unable to learn something new or to allow yourself to be corrected over misinformation.

Are they talking about when it had lap bars before the seat belt changeover?

The only anal in this conversation is what you're talking out of.

.....would have been a funny comeback. ;)

Spot on!

My wife was recently in a similar situation with someone who insisted that Harry Potter was at Disneyworld. In the interest of making sure the person she was talking to wasn't misinformed, she politely corrected her, only to have the person be even more adamant about it to the point of being a little belligerent. Eventually, after more back and forth, she whipped out her phone, which had pictures of both places from a recent trip, and told the listener (not the person who was arguing with her about it), "Look, I was at both places last month, she's just wrong, and it's not an arguable point. Believe whomever you like, though."

Cracked me up! Pretty much ended the discussion, too. :)
